2015-16 Middle School Acceptable Use Agreement
Please read this AUP carefully. All students and parents are required to review this document, as well as sign the accompanying agreement to protect the hardware and software inherent with this technology.
  • OVERVIEW

This Acceptable Use Policy sets the standards for technology use by all Middle School students. iPads are the property of Northlake Christian School and are to be used for school appropriate use only. iPads must remain on the Northlake Christian School Campus for Grades 5 & 6.
  • CLEANING

Use a lint-free cloth to clean the screen. To clean the exterior casing, use a damp, soft cloth. Avoid getting moisture in any opening. Never spray liquid directly onto the iPad. Students can visit the Wolverine Den in Upper School Room 101 to clean the iPad with approved cleaners.
  • INTERNET

The Internet is to be used positively to support educational purposes. Northlake Christian School has a content filtering system that follows the iPad on and off campus. Information Technology Solutions Group (“ITS”) reserves the right to monitor Internet usage of all students. Instant messaging of any kind is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.
    • Students must be responsible to bring their iPad, fully charged at the beginning of the day, to all classes.
    • Students are NOT allowed to charge their iPad in class unless specifically allowed to by that teacher.
    • Students who repeatedly (three or more times in a quarter) fail to bring the iPad to school or maintain a fully charged battery will serve a Saturday suspension or other disciplinary action.

  • EMAIL

While on campus, Middle School students are only allowed to access SCHOOL email accounts. Communicate with your teachers and classmates about school using your SCHOOL email account. You should use respectful language. Emails to the entire school are permitted only with the Middle School Principal’s permission. Using personal email during school hours will result in disciplinary action. ITS reserves the right to monitor email usage of all students.
  • CYBERBULLYING

Tormenting, threatening, harassing, humiliating, embarrassing or otherwise targeting others using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones will not be tolerated.
Disciplinary action will be taken for students who treat others unfairly through the use of technology.
  • VIDEOING/TAPING IN CLASS

iPads may not be used to create inappropriate video material. Using any recording app during class is prohibited unless directed by the teacher. Permission is required to photograph and/or record teachers and other students. Background pictures on a student’s screen must be appropriate.
  • DATA/SHARING OF iPADS

iPads should remain with the assigned student. Students are NOT allowed to borrow iPads, laptops, power cords, or cables.
Students are prohibited from accessing faculty computers. Students are responsible for all information stored on their iPads or NCS Computer System. iPads are not for personal use by family members. It is the Student's responsibility to properly back up their Student Data. This is an important student requirement because sometimes an iPad has to be reset and the data is lost that is stored on the iPad.

  • GAMES

Students are not allowed to download games or play leisure games at school. However, an exception is made if teachers instruct students to play an educational online game.
  • PASSWORDS

Students are responsible for protecting the confidentiality of all passwords. If passwords are shared, others will be able to log in and possibly add to or delete your files. If there is an issue with a password, visit ITS. Students are encouraged to place a screen lock on their iPad.
  • COPYRIGHT

Plagiarism is unacceptable. Credit must be given to the owner of all pictures and information used. Refer to the Student Handbook for further details.
  • BATTERY

It is the responsibility of the students to charge the iPad each night. When students arrive at school, the iPad should be fully charged.
  • STORAGE OF iPADS

iPads should be stored in a locker or locked teacher’s room. iPads are not to be stored in the gym, locker rooms, school bag, or the breezeway. iPads that are found unattended will be delivered to the ITS.
    1st offense: Warning
    2nd offense: Detention
    3rd offense: Saturday School
  • iPAD CASE

All students are required to use a school issued case at ALL times. The iPad should stay in the case at ALL TIMES. Students are not allowed to remove the iPad from the case.
  • SKINS/STICKERS

Students are not allowed to put “skins” or stickers on the surface of the iPad or on the case. Barcode and sticker nametags should not be removed as they are used for identification purposes.
  • AFTER SCHOOL STORAGE

Students in 7th and 8th grade are expected to bring their iPads home from school each day. If students have an afterschool activity, the iPad must be stored in a locker or given to a parent prior to the activity. Unattended iPads will be taken to ITS. If an iPad is picked up after hours, the student can pick up the iPad when the Center reopens the next school day.
  • HEADPHONES/MUSIC

Headphones are only to be used with a teacher’s permission. Storing music is not allowed on your iPad unless it is assigned to you by a teacher. Students are required to provide their own ear buds and a pair must be brought to school daily.
  • PRINTING

Each student will be given a printing allowance per quarter. If students need to purchase additional printing credits, they can be purchased in the Wolverine Den. While on campus, students are to carefully select printing location and pick up the print job the same day it is printed. Visit ITS if help is needed.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE

Students are not allowed to post pictures that show NCS clothing or logos, as this is a means for outsiders to identify students. Comments or groups should not be created about other students or teachers. All material posted on social networking and video uploading sites that violate the Honor Code can result in disciplinary action.
  • HACKING/CHEATING

It is a violation of the Honor Code to attempt to hack the system or obtain administrative passwords. Trying to unlock a folder or application that is not openly available to students will result in disciplinary action.
Cheating using technology is a serious violation of the school’s honor code and will be handled appropriately.
  • REPLACEMENT ITEMS

All items are available in the Wolverine Den and are available upon request using the appropriate IT Support ticket.
  • TECH SUPPORT

If students are in need of any support, they can submit a service request via its.ncswolverine.org or visit the Wolverine Den in the Upper School with a pass from the Middle School office. You are not allowed to leave class to seek assistance. You should plan to visit ITS before or after school or during your break times.
  • REPAIR PROGRAM

Students who encounter an iPad problem must visit ITS. Only ITS has the right to repair NCS equipment. Students have a $300 Repair Allowance for the life of the iPad. Student accounts will be billed a $49 copay for each claim. Once a student exceeds the $300 allowance, he/she will be charged the actual price for the repair or replacement. DO NOT bring the iPad to a computer shop or the Apple store for repairs. If a iPad is lost or stolen, you must report that to ITS and your Principal immediately; plus a police report will have to be provided – otherwise, the student will have to pay the full value of the iPad and case.
  • HONOR CODE

I want to be a person who seeks God first,
above pursuit of my personal gain or pleasure.
I ask God to change my heart to be more like Jesus
so I may live more fully for His honor and glory.
Today, with God's help, I commit to being honest,
respectful of others and their property,

active in service to others. On my word of honor,
I will strive to be an exemplary citizen of
    Northlake Christian School.
