Guide to Starting a Blog

There are a lot of benefits of making a blog. Whether it’s for personal use or for business, a blog can help the owner to express his or her opinion and earn money at the same time. For writers, it is a great opportunity for others to read their works. For small shops, it is a great way to advertise and sell their products.

Some people pay professionals to create an outstanding blog for them that works. If you are good at making your website on your own, then you won’t have problems. However, if you are a beginner and do not have the budget to pay experts, you can still follow this simple guide to make your very first blog without the need to learn html or other computer programming lessons.

Step 1: Choose a Blogging Platform

A blogging platform is the service that you would be using to publish your blog on the World Wide Web. There are many different blogging platforms that you can choose from. You can even choose a free one if you are under a very tight budget. WordPress, Blogger, and Tumblr are just some of the most widely used services, but there are a lot more.

When you have chosen a platform, also create a domain name and choose a web hosting service. A domain name is the address that would show up in the address up; ex: www.yourdomainnameofchoice.com. The domain registrars would make sure that the name you chose would be yours alone. Make sure to create one that would represent your blog well and would be easy to identify and memorize. A web hosting service, on the other hand, is provided by a hosting company. The provider would be where your domain name would be housed – just like a huge server.

Step 2: Set Up Your Blog

Once you have chosen your blogging platform, your domain name and your web host provider, you can now proceed to setting up your site. For WordPress, there are ready made themes that you can already start with. But, you can also create and design your own if you want to. Choose the most appropriate theme for your site depending on your concept. Make sure to take note of the plug-ins and other additional programs you need for the site.

Step 3: Start Writing and Post Your First Content

Your very first post is the most important. If you are not well versed with words, you might want to pay or ask someone to help you out with the writing part. You can get some tips on what topics to talk about of how you can make your post interesting. Your first post should be able to lure people in.

Your next posts are also important as they would be responsible in retaining your already accumulated readers and pull in new ones.

Step 4: Modify Your Blog and Market It

Once you have successfully set up your own blog, you should start letting it grow. The first thing you need to do is check which parts of the blog you need to improve more. Then, think of what you should add. You can then market your blog to gain even more viewers by using social media and other sites.
