"In 2013, I spent three months volunteering in Bohol through the International Citizen Service (ICS), a UK Government-funded program implemented by VSO Bahaginan Foundation. My experience was definitely exceptional – I was able
to work closely with the local government units, schools, youth groups, and
out-of-school youth as we advocate for environmental sustainability. As a
volunteer, I knew I was in the best position to share first-hand insight with
others. I always find great satisfaction in showing people how they can make a
difference, no matter how small their efforts might seem.
Because of my volunteering experience, I pursued developmental work through
the same organization. I was hired as a Program Assistant and was later on
promoted to Program Officer where I assessed and recruited local youth
volunteers, trained British and Filipino volunteers, provided guidance to Youth
Project Coordinators on volunteer management policies and procedures, and
supported the volunteers in moving forward after their deployment through
debriefing sessions, among others.
Due to the unexpected end of the ICS Program, I had to move on and later on
experienced being a government employee. I was an Executive Assistant to the
Regional Director of the Office of Civil Defense, the office tasked to lead the
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) programs of the Philippines.
As a country welcoming almost 20 tropical cyclones a year, experiencing
around 20 earthquakes a day, and having 23 active volcanoes, my work
demanded urgency, experience, resourcefulness, and initiative.
I am confident that my commitment to learn and my dependability will greatly help in making sure that your business will be a success."
