2016 Diving into Sensors
Learning to use Arduino to collect data with underwater sensors.
April 1 - July 15, 2016.
Please read the Diving into Sensors Workshop description in detail on the MATE website before you start this application. [ See www.marinetech.org/mate-summer-institutes-2016]
Applications are accepted until the workshop is full. We plan to start notifying applicants of their acceptance the first week of March.
Your acceptance to the workshop will be based upon your ability to implement ROV building activities within your school, club, or afterschool program, not on your knowledge or experience. Please answer all of the questions truthfully.
You can start, save, and come back later to complete this application. Just hit "Save & Resume" at the end. Be sure to copy the URL link and save it to a place you will remember.

I have read the Diving into Sensors Workshop description and understand that workshop participants are required to:
* Complete all of the online workshop modules.
* Implement ROV building activities during the following academic year.
* Pay a $450 material fee for this workshop to cover the cost an Arduino, sensor package, book and instruction.
*
Yes
No
Please answer the following questions so we can better understand your needs and background.
1. Have you participated in ROV building activites before? If so, please describe any professional development activities and/or teaching experience related to ROV building.
*
2. Have you participated in or mentored a team at the MATE ROV competition? If so, when and where? If you have participated in other related competitions, please list them (i.e. First, Vex, SeaPerch, etc.)
*
3. Do you plan to participate in the MATE ROV competition in 2016 and/or 2017?
*
4. Some schools use their student-built ROVs to conduct research such as surveys of coral reefs, zebra mussels, shipwrecks, or water quality. Does this interest you? Do you have any ideas for scientific studies you would like to conduct with an ROV that involve students?
*
5. What education and/or experience do you have with hand and power tools, electronics, or engineering?
*
6. What experience do you have with Arduino or other microcontrollers? List any programming languages you know here.
*
7. Why do you want to attend this workshop?
*
8. What will you do with the knowledge you gain from this workshop? (Be as specific as possible: what class or club, how many students will be involved, will you compete or do a science project, how will these activities be supported over the long run, etc.)
