Liberty Legends - 'A Swansea Football Story'
Vetch Field Voices was one of the best selling sports books in Wales in 2000 and now Keith Haynes and Phil Sumbler are combining again for a follow up book which will share the memories of the fans in the period since. The football club has come along way in the 14 years since the original book was released and now you can be part of the follow up. Simply complete as many or as few memories as you choose and hit submit. The book will be released towards the end of this season
  • What are your memories of the short but eventful period that Tony Petty was at the club? Do you remember the marches, the action by the fans, the Rushden game or did you even get the chance to meet and talk to Petty at any stage? Share your memories in this box.
  • It was the afternoon that no Swans fan wanted to experience. We had to win to stay in the football league and on a wet afternoon at the Vetch the local hero came good as James Thomas hit a hat trick and the Swans lived to fight another day. We have pretty much never looked back since that moment but what are your memories of the day? Share them here
  • As we said goodbye to the Vetch we were winning promotion from League Two under the leadership of Kenny Jackett. Over 5,000 fans travelled to Bury on the last day of the season to see the game decided by a first minute goal and the Swans were promoted. In the after match celebrations Willy Gueret was led away from the ground under arrest but it did not dampen the spirits. How do you recall that promotion campaign?
  • In August 2005 the Swans finally moved into their new stadium in Landore after 93 years at the Vetch Field. The stadium opened with a game against Fulham whilst Tranmere were the first visitors in the league (everyone remember the noise when Jason McAteer missed the penalty?) - what are your early memories of the Liberty Stadium compared to the Vetch Field?
  • The Swans played in front of a Millennium Stadium crowd in April 2006 and they defeated Carlisle to win the Autoglass Trophy final. It was an eventful game although all the press headlines after a game were about a flag that was held aloft by Alan Tate and Lee Trundle who were subsequently questioned by the police. Share your thoughts of the Autoglass Trophy final
  • Just a few short weeks later the Swans were back at the Millennium Stadium but this time against Barnsley in the play off final. The result was not the same as the Swans were denied back to back promotions in an agonising play off final defeat. How do you recall the pain of that day and in the long run did it turn out to be a better thing for the club to lose that year?
  • Kenny Jackett had departed the Liberty Stadium and Roberto Martinez had changed the way that the Swans were playing and they were by far the best team in League One as they won promotion in 2008. However, it was a set of promotion celebrations that were always postponed as Leeds court case against a fifteen point penalty turned some of the league season into a farce. Promotion was eventually sealed with a win at Gillingham whilst we finally got the winners trophy we deserved at Brighton as Leeds finally lost their court case. Oh, and finished more than 15 points behind the Swans!! What were the best parts of that season for you?
  • The impossible dream came true on 30th May 2011 when the Swans won a nerve wracking play off final at Wembley to secure a place in the Premier League - the first side outside of England to do that. The play off final itself created memories that nobody will ever forget but think back over some of the momentous moments of that season and share your thoughts here around the best games, your thoughts and memories of Wembley or anything that stood out.
  • Almost as soon as we were promoted we were written off as a team likely to come straight back down. We are now in our fourth consecutive season in the division and have upset most of the big clubs somewhere along the way. In those four years what have been your abiding memories and matches? Share your views here on the Swans in the Premier League
  • In our centenary season we finally won our first major trophy with a win in the Capital One Cup at Wembley. Share your memories of that fantastic run that included wins at Liverpool and Chelsea as well as a scraped win at Crawley. Oh and of course a certain ballboy as well!
  • "And once again all Europe will hear the Swansea City sound" were the words of Roger Evans' Swansea City song and it was true again in 2013-14 thanks to the Capital Cup win. Games against Malmo, Ploiesti, Valencia, Krasnodar, St Gallen and finally Napoli created a whole host of memories that will never fade and this is your chance to share your views on some great trips, performances and results
  • John Hollins, Colin Addison, Brian Flynn, Kenny Jackett, Roberto Martinez, Paulo Sousa, Brendan Rodgers, Michael Laudrup and Garry Monk. Each of them have occupied the managerial chair in the period since Vetch Field Voices was printed. What are your memories of these managers from them coming and going to what we achieved under each and every one of them.
  • Lee Trundle, Leon Knight, Michu, Jason Scotland, Ashley Williams, Leon Britton, Wilfried Bony. Just some of the names that have pulled on the white shirt during the past 14 years. There were those that succeeded and those that didn't quite make the grade that we wanted. Who was your favourite, who were you glad to see the back of and could Leon Knight have gone onto be a club legend? Share your thoughts here
  • The South Wales derby returned in 2008 after a few years of not happening. In the 9 derbies that have taken place in the last 6 years there were dodgy penalties, home and away wins, plenty of action and the first top flight Welsh derby. From the League Cup tie in 2008 to the Swans emphatic win at the Liberty in 2014 what stands out for you from the derby games?
