Dear Sirs . . . . . . . I am writing to urge you to designate the Salmon Point Lighthouse  as a property of cultural heritage value and significance under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act . . . . . . . This lighthouse, located in Prince Edward County, Ontario, is an important piece of Ontario's history .  Built in 1871, it is the oldest lighthouse of its type in Canada, and is closely linked with the marine heritage of Ontario and of Prince Edward County.  It stands as a memorial to the tragic loss of the schooner "Jesse" which  was wrecked at Salmon Point claiming the lives of all those on board.  . . . . . . . . The lighthouse is located on a property owned by a private numbered company.  There is nothing to prevent that numbered company from removing, altering, or demolishing this historic structure.  You have the means to provide some measure of heritage protection to this lighthouse by designating it under the Ontario Heritage Act . . . . . . . The heritage designation process will give the owner of the property ample opportunity to discuss any concerns that they may have about the designation . . . . . . . Please designate this heritage property so that it has a chance of being preserved . . . . . . . Sincerely,
