YA Lit Symposium Library Worker Travel Stipend
  • About the Stipend:

    YALSA’s Young Adult Literature Symposium Stipend will enable one qualified recipient to attend the symposium, which will be held in Austin, TX, November 14 – 16, 2014.

    One stipend up to $1,000 will be awarded to a library worker who works directly with young adults.

    Applications must be received in the YALSA office by June 15, 2014.

    Winners will be announced the week of July 27, 2014.

  • Application Guidelines:

    1. All applications must be submitted electronically using this official application form.
    2. All applicants must be current, personal members of YALSA at the time of application.
    3. A current resume must be uploaded via the official application form.
    4. You may upload your supporting statement below unless the statement will be sent directly from your supervisor. Please make sure document is named appropriately, last name of the applicant, underscore, and name of document. IE. Gilbert_supportingstatement.doc
    5. Word document or PDFs will be accepted.
    6. Supporting statements can be submitted as an attachment to YALSA at noconnor@ala.org.
    7. Applications are due no later than June 15, 2014.
  • Requirements for Applicants:

    • YALSA personal membership
    • At least one year of experience serving teenagers in a professional library setting
    • Previous recipients are not eligible
    • Incomplete submissions will not be considered
  • Criteria for Selection:

    -Candidate’s commitment to young adult library services
    -Candidate’s desired learning outcomes for attending the conference
    -Candidate’s financial and professional development needs
    -Strength of supporting statement

  • Supporting Statement Information

    Have a supervisor who is familiar with your work comment on your qualifications and how attendance at the 2014 YALSA Young Adult Literature Symposium will benefit you professionally and/or personally. The supporting statement can either be uploaded below or emailed separately. The supporting statement must be emailed to ngilbert@ala.org no later than midnight June 16, 2014. Be sure your name and “supporting statement” appear in the subject line.
  • 6. Statement of Understanding

    I understand that the up to $1,000 awarded is only for conference expenses (registration fees, travel, housing, meal per diem) and in order to receive my full award, I must provide original receipts to the YALSA Office. If selected, I agree to submit a summary of learning experiences gained from the conference by Jan. 1, 2015. I further understand that if I win the stipend and for some reason cannot attend the conference that I must notify the YALSA Office by Aug. 15, 2014 and will forfeit the award. I am also aware that if I win this stipend I am not eligible to apply in future years.
