  • Regardless of your experience level, please provide a name and email address or phone number of another Shiba rescue volunteer as a reference. If you don't know any Shiba rescue volunteers yet, please simply indicate that - everyone has to start somewhere!

  • Foster Homes

Foster homes provide care to Shibas until they find their permanent adoptive placement.
  • If you are interested in being a foster home, please fill out the following sections about your pets, family and home.
  • Home Visit Evaluation

These individuals should be familiar with the breed and able to evaluate prospective adopters and their environments for suitability (a extensive form is provided). Home visit volunteers are our eyes in the field to help rescued Shibas be placed into the best homes for them.
  • Dog Evaluation

These individuals should be familiar with the breed and able to evaluate prospective dogs for intake into MSIR (a extensive form is provided). These volunteers may be asked to go to shelters, vets, or homes to evaluate dogs.
  • Transport

These individuals are a valuable rescue tool and help to move dogs across the Midwest by car and plane. Dogs are moved from to foster homes, to adoptive homes and in other situations. We also move food and supplies to dogs in need.
