PLAYGROUND DETROIT X PONYRIDE CALL FOR ARTISTS
PLAYGROUND DETROIT has partnered with Ponyride to facilitate a new artist residency program providing artists with an incubator space to create excellent artwork in a dynamic environment within the Detroit creative community. This residency simultaneously hosts one Detroit-based artist and one visiting artist who are provided with private live/work space and co-working area at Ponyride in Corktown, Detroit. They will be asked to make new work that will be exhibited at the end of the residency. This will establish curated connections and encourage dialogue between the artist fellows reflective of their relationship to and understanding of Detroit.

Throughout the six-week residency each artist will engage with the community through an artist talk at a Collector’s Dinner with patrons and local arts institution representatives, as well as at a family-friendly community workshop the artists produce with PLAYGROUND DETROIT for local youth. The residency will result in one exhibition with the artists’ presentation of their process and their completed high-quality artwork to sell. PLAYGROUND DETROIT will coordinate all events, exhibits, and promotional media.

The residency provides participating artists with the following: materials stipend sponsored by Blick, introductions to dynamic art scenes by partnered artists, time and space to create new work, individual professional development and networking, and deeply informational cultural tours of both historical and contemporary Detroit with special access to otherwise private spaces.
