"I started my call center career about 11 years ago; the same age as my son. Yes, he is actually the reason why I got into this industry. Prior to this, I was a musician and everything was working out. But with my son coming, I knew I had to do better. And so I found myself doing my first ever call simulation. I barely passed, but that small opening was all I needed.

I will never forget my first campaign. Our client was a major truck leasing company in the US. Our role was dispatch. They trained us as much as they could, as much as everyone could hope for. But as the end of training drew near, the realization of how critical our role was crept in and scared us. When one of our trucks break down, our job was to help the driver of that truck finish his job, using any means necessary. We had the ability to send a repair truck, a tow truck or a replacement truck and we were authorized to contact anyone to get this done. That's right; Anyone. We had the numbers for all the top brass, including their CEO. And we could wake them up! Anything to get things going for the driver. It was baptism by fire, and I loved every minute of every case I handled.

The next few years the campaigns I was involved in was all about customer service. I helped doctors and patients confirm benefits and eligibility for insurance, I did relay calls for people hard of hearing, online shopping assistance, and a whole lot more. These were my formative years in customer satisfaction skills.

About 4 years ago I tried my hand on doing sales. Being an introvert, it was certainly an adventure for me. Back then I had minimal skills in assertiveness and my personality didn't really fit the job, but it was a chance to learn new things. And so I did. It was one of the most significant skills I developed; developing a separate personality and putting it to use when needed.

With some of the recent changes in my life, I have had to let go of the call center office setting for now. And with more time on my hands, I am now able to develop my skills further by working from home and being able to read more. If there is a peculiarity about me that stands out, it is my hunger to learn new things. The future is truly exciting for me."
