2018 Summer Intern Application
Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre
Wakefield Repertory Youth Theatre is a six week summer camp for students going into 5th to 9th grade. This program focuses on all aspects of theatre, giving each and every student an opportunity to explore the arts, learn and grow. WRYT is thrilled to have our intern program back for Summer 2018.The WRYT intern program is a great “next step” for those who are too old to participate in the program, while providing the training and experience to possibly move into staff positions. It is vital for the program’s continuation that this program is a success. We are seeking motivated individuals (grade nine or higher) to come on board in leadership roles serving as student interns. Though an unpaid position, Interns receive hands-on theatrical training from a skilled staff and are expected to serve in leadership positions. Interning is also a great extra-curricular activity, community service and an impressive resume booster!
WRYT meets Monday through Friday (Camp hours 8a-2p, staff hours 7:30a-2:30p) starting June 25th and concluding in four performances the weekend of August 2nd. Interns are asked to be at camp daily, though with prior notification of conflicts, interns will be permitted to miss up to three camp days. Interns are also asked to assist with auditions and callbacks (Dates TBA). In addition to normal hours there are also a number of outside of camp events which interns are encouraged and asked to attend (including fundraisers, set painting and construction, special events, tech weekend, etc.).
Please fill out the following application as thoroughly as possible by April 7, 2018, remembering that this is a competitive program and not all who apply will be accepted. Late applications will not be accepted.

Have you participated in WRYT before – either as a student or past intern? If so, which shows and how did your experience(s) influence your desire to apply for this position? If not, what led you to apply for this position?
Have you participated in any other arts programs (school, community theatre, etc.)? What was your role? Please be specific.
Do you foresee any potential calendar conflicts with any camp days, camp-related events or performances (interns are allowed to miss three camp days as longs as they are not during the last two weeks & have given prior notification)?
In the past interns have sometimes had a difficult time drawing the line between themselves and campers, this can be tricky since you may have friends still in the program as campers. Are you comfortable with respecting boundaries, distance and being someone in a leadership position with campers you may already know and have friendships or family ties with? How would you best navigate this?
Are you someone who dives into a situation looking for things to do or are you someone who waits for instruction and guidance?
Have you ever been in a leadership position? Do you feel that you are someone who can lead and whom students can learn from?
Do you have a favorite theatre game? What is it and why?
If you felt a fellow intern was not living up to their potential, how would you handle that situation?
Is there a specific staff position (director, music director, choreographer, tech director, stage manager, production manager, etc.) you would like to shadow? Please explain your choice – you may choose more than one.
Do you think you are capable of preparing a well-developed and executed workshop on an arts-related subject that our campers can learn something from? Do you have any ideas of the type of workshop you’d like to lead?
How have theatrical arts influenced you? Do you foresee yourself pursuing fine or performing arts in college and/or after college?
What’s your favorite musical and why?
Do you feel comfortable lifting and moving heavy objects? Do you have any backstage experience on set crew, etc.?
How would you approach and deal with a conflict between two campers?
Scenario: It’s a day at camp and the senior staff doesn’t have anything specific for you to do. What would you do with your day?
If not chosen for a full internship would you be interested in a tech internship which would bring you in for the last two weeks of camp and have you serve on set crew, backstage help, etc.?
What do you think makes a successful intern?
What do you feel your strengths are and how will they benefit you in working with WRYT? What is an area you foresee WRYT helping you improve upon?
Why do you want to be an intern with WRYT this coming summer? What is a goal you’d like to achieve through this internship?
Please attach a resume, if available, including past theatrical training and experience.
