2018 Summer Learning Resources Grant
to support innovative literacies, focused projects
  • This grant is designed to provide libraries in need with funds for resources so that they are better equipped to offer services and resources that help prevent the summer slide in under-served teens most vulnerable to summer learning loss, including teens who speak English as a second language, teens in socio-economically challenged communities, and teens who are at risk of failing school.

The applicant must present a case for why it needs the funds to enhance their summer outreach efforts for/with teens, and describe how they will use the grant funds to achieve one or more of the following: 1) assist teens who are English language learners; 2) engage teens in high poverty communities; 3) support teens who are struggling academically.

YALSA encourages innovative proposals that are tailored to the specific needs of the teens in the library’s community. The $1,000 grant, made possible by Dollar General, is to be used to purchase resources or deliver services to help prevent summer learning loss.

Funds may not be used for prizes, food, or salaries.

A total of twenty grants are available. Individual library branches within a larger system are welcome to apply.

Applications are due January 1, 2018. Recipients will be announced the week of February 14, 2018.
