2017-18 Get Hip to Habitat Program Application
The Get Hip to Habitat (H2H) school-year program brings together Galveston Bay Foundation’s (GBF) environmental education and habitat restoration initiatives into one program. Get Hip to Habitat integrates traditional classroom learning with “in the field” learning. The program provides a meaningful watershed educational experience for students of participating schools. Participation in the program requires sustained activity and a commitment by teachers and students of a full school year.

  • Program Requirements -

    Before applying, be certain that you meet the following program requirements:

    • All events and programs held during school hours.
    • Availability to attend Fall Harvest field events and Spring Restoration Field events.
    • Availability to schedule and participate in a Bay Ambassador classroom presentation.
    • 100% participation by students and teachers in all events.
    • Timely communication with GBF education team.
    • Teachers will utilize eNews materials for program enhancement and supplemental lessons.
    • Teachers will share copies or results of any program related supplemental lessons, projects, or student produced products with GBF.
    • Campus wetlands must have a nearby water source, a water hose hookup is preferred.
    • No more than 50 students per field event day.
    • Program payment due 2 weeks prior to Harvest date. Scholarship and grant recipients exempt.
    • New schools are required to meet with GBF Education Team before start date.
    • Teacher and students are responsible for plant harvest, plant preparation, and plant restoration responsibilities.
    • GBF Education Team is not responsible for fulfilling these requirements for you and your class. If you are unable to meet program requirements, you will not be eligible to participate in future Get Hip to Habitat programs.

  • Teacher Program Duties: The following duties are required to be completed in a timely manner during the program:

    • Schedule all program dates prior to Harvest date.
    • Receive Dirt Deliveries- Dirt will be delivered to your school the day prior to harvest during the school day, and a teacher or school representative MUST be available to receive the delivery.
    • Lead students in performing water quality monitoring of campus wetlands every two weeks.
    • Utilize program related supplemental lessons provided in eNews or other sources.
    • Submit online student survey BEFORE Harvest event, and submit online student survey AFTER Restoration event.
    • Complete teacher surveys after Harvest, Bay Ambassador, and Restoration events.
    • Buses, drivers, and substitute teachers will be scheduled and provided by school.
