Clinical Externship Application
Program
Pre-Doctoral Externships are part-time, one- or two-year appointments in which candidates receive in-depth training in rational-emotive and cognitive behavior therapy, serve as therapists in the Institute’s clinic, co-lead groups and workshops, receive 3 hours of individual and group supervision a week, and participate in research.

Certificate
Successful completion of all requirements will result in Fellowship or Associate Fellowship status of the Albert Ellis Institute.

Eligibility
Post-Doctoral/Graduate Fellowships: Doctorate in Psychology, Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling, M.S.W., R.N., or M.D. Pre-Doctoral Externs nearing completion of a Ph.D. thesis pursue a similar program to Fellows.

Course of Study
The Fellowship and Externship Programs offer highly diversified training:

Clinical experience: Trainees devote 12 hours per week to clinical practice, including co-leading a therapy group with senior staff, individual therapy, psychological evaluations, and research.

Supervision: 3 hours of supervision per week with a licensed Senior Staff Clinical Psychologist.

Co-lead workshops in coping with anxiety, anger, procrastination, self-defeating eating, and numerous other topics.

One-hour weekly didactics: Mental health and other professionals are brought in to provide a comprehensive training experience.

Schedule
Clinical requirements for Fellows and Externs can be met by working 2-3 evenings a week, with supervision and didactics on Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm. Program begins mid-July.
