2017-18 Lower School Acceptable Use Agreement
Please read this AUP carefully. All students and parents are required to review this document, as well as sign the accompanying agreement.
  • OVERVIEW

This Acceptable Use Policy sets the standards for technology use by all Lower School students. iPads are the property of Northlake Christian School and are to be used for school appropriate use only. iPads must remain on the Northlake Christian School Campus for Grades K-4.
  • Using the computer correctly and responsibly is very important. I promise to follow these rules:

    1. I promise to use all computer equipment and iPad’s carefully and not damage, change or tamper with the hardware, software, settings or the network. If something seems to be wrong with my computer, I will tell my teacher.

    2. I promise to use the computer or iPad and the Internet for schoolwork only. I will use the applications and websites that my teacher has instructed me to visit.

    3. I promise not to share my passwords with anyone except my parents or teachers.

    4. I will not view, send or display inappropriate messages or pictures. I will tell an adult if I read or see something on the computer that is inappropriate.

    5. If I use pictures or words from a webpage for research, I will cite where I found it.

    6. I promise never to use the computer or iPad to harass, frighten, or bully anyone.

  • INTERNET

The Internet is to be used positively to support educational purposes. Northlake Christian School has a content filtering system that follows the iPad on and off campus. Information Technology Solutions Group (“ITS”) reserves the right to monitor Internet usage of all students. Instant messaging of any kind is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.

With the increase in technology in this digital age, we believe, as Christian educators, we must take a proactive approach on fostering positive digital citizenship with our students. In order to provide instruction and positive habits, we will provide lessons on digital citizenship to students during their computer classes. The scope and sequence of the curriculum will be drawn from Common Sense Media which is a leading resource that promotes digital citizenship for students and families.

  • EMAIL

Lower School students are not allowed to access SCHOOL email accounts. ITS reserves the right to monitor email usage of all students.
  • CYBERBULLYING

Tormenting, threatening, harassing, humiliating, embarrassing or otherwise targeting others using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones will not be tolerated.
Disciplinary action will be taken for students who treat others unfairly through the use of technology.
  • VIDEOING/TAPING IN CLASS

Using any recording app during class is prohibited unless directed by the teacher. Permission is required to photograph and/or record teachers and other students.
  • GAMES

Students are not allowed to download games or play leisure games at school. However, an exception is made if teachers instruct students to play an educational game.
  • STORAGE OF iPADS

iPads will be stored in a charging station located in the Lower School. Students in the Lower School will not bring home their iPads.

  • HACKING/CHEATING

It is a violation of the Honor Code to attempt to hack the system or obtain administrative passwords. Trying to unlock a folder or application that is not openly available to students will result in disciplinary action.
Cheating using technology is a serious violation of the school’s honor code and will be handled appropriately.
  • REPAIR PROGRAM

Only ITS has the right to repair NCS equipment. Students have a $300 Repair Allowance for the life of the iPad. Student accounts will be billed a $49 copay for each claim. Once a student exceeds the $300 allowance, he/she will be charged the actual price for the repair or replacement.
  • HONOR CODE

I want to be a person who seeks God first,
above pursuit of my personal gain or pleasure.
I ask God to change my heart to be more like Jesus
so I may live more fully for His honor and glory.
Today, with God's help, I commit to being honest,
respectful of others and their property,
cooperative with all school authorities and
active in service to others. On my word of honor,
I will strive to be an exemplary citizen of
    Northlake Christian School.
  • Northlake Christian School Student Pledge for iPad Use

I have read and understand Northlake Christian School’s Acceptable Use Policy and agree to abide by the requirements stated. Northlake Christian School is the owner of the iPad. A student’s use of the iPad, Internet and/or email may be revoked, denied, or suspended by request of an administrator.
