Declaration of Practices and Procedures
Sheila Soslow, LPC
Qualifications: I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling and Student Services in Dec of 2008. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) #18143 with the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors: Mail Code 1982 P.O. Box 149347 Austin, TX 78714-9347.
Nature of Counseling: My theory of counseling is Adlerian. Based on this theory, I practice with the belief that the client is an important active participant in the therapeutic process. Clients are encouraged to voice opinions and choices concerning counseling. Client and counselor are collaborative and work together as a team towards achieving the selected constructive goals of therapy we have agreed upon.
Counseling Relationship: Unless you prefer otherwise, I will call you by your first name. Please call me Sheila. During the time you and I work together, we usually will meet weekly. Although our sessions may be psychologically deep, ours is a professional relationship rather than a social one. Therefore, please do not invite me to social events, bring me gifts, ask to barter or exchange services, ask me to write references for you, or ask me to relate to you in any way other than the professional context of our counseling relationship. You will benefit the most if our interactions address your concerns exclusively. I conduct all counseling sessions in English or with a translator for whom you arrange and pay. I do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. If significant differences, such as in culture or belief system, exist between us, I will work to understand those differences.
Areas of Expertise: A variety of formats are undertaken in which I am involved with conducting individual and family counseling with persons of all ages. I am also an experienced play therapist.
Fee Scales: All sessions are $120 and are approximately 45 - 60 minutes in length..
Code of Conduct: All counseling conducted in this center will adhere to the Texas Code of Ethics for Licensed Professional Counselors established by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. A copy of this code is available upon request. Counseling services are available for any client, unless it is determined that a referral to another mental health professional or agency is in order.
