I want to propose a project
Every year thousands of Ugandans are affected by disasters and many have lost their dear lives and properties especially because of slowed response. Slow response is caused by limited availability of financial and material resources. As part of the solution, Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) established an Annual Disaster Responders’ Club (ADRC) to increase speed, effectiveness and efficiency in responding to disasters and emergencies in Uganda by contributing to the Disaster Response Fund, Recovery Efforts, and Sustaining Resources to minimize Disaster Risks.
Joining this club will enable URCS to develop and support some of the following areas of work:
1. Effectively save lives of people affected by disasters within the shortest possible response period.
2. Supporting recovery of approximately 250,000 people affected by disasters every year.
3. Reduce risks of disasters by investing in safety mechanisms.
If you consider joining the club, it would be very useful if you contact the Resource Mobilisation Manager on 0776312350/0782163148 or mmubiru@redcrossug.org to explain how being part of the club will enable URCS to consolidate and develop its humanitarian work.

Utilising Staff as corporate ambassadors is an excellent way a company can build a positive image in a great way. Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has designed a staff volunteer programme that maximizes your corporate visibility while doing good in the community.
The objective of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) is to do good while also contributing to the company’s objective of maximizing profits. The challenge is that it is not easy to find the right cause that supports the corporate objective of maximizing its bottom line. Staff can be a good way through which it does its CSI to achieve both objectives while maximizing visibility.
This programme will contribute to the company’s visibility in the community and it will cost UGX150,000 per corporate volunteer for a day which is a contribution to the Disaster Response Emergency Fund and logistical costs of volunteering.
.
Lighting in refugee camps of Uganda is a big challenge for refugees and other displaced people.
The absence of light in refugee camps is one of the many challenges facing refugees. When the sun goes down, simple activities such as homework and collecting water can become difficult and even dangerous. Women and girls are especially exposed.
Without light, all activities stop and the refugees find it difficult to do the necessary activities for their wellbeing in the dark.
The Solution is what we call the Solar Muscle, which is a solar-powered LED light which is used in many African countries and the rest of the world.
The simple light has already done more for several thousands of African families than extensive and focused international aid programs.
Each light costs 20 USD including operational overheads and distribution costs. A minimum of 2,000 lights have to be purchased to create a sizeable impact.
.
In exchange for the Red Cross brand, the company will sell its product embedded with the Red Cross emblem to its customers and offer a contribution towards supporting disasters and emergencies in Uganda. The contribution will be a percentage off the sales of the product volumes for the campaign. The collections can be remitted after the agreed period.
A minimum amount of contribution to the disasters will be set regardless of how much sales have been realized at an agreed period.
