  • Student Responsibilities

    Take an active part in planning, learning, and tracking progress in your studies.

    Sign in and sign out from each class session. If you fail to do so, your attendance hours will not be counted.

    Ask for help when you need it.

    Respect the rights of other students and promptly report misconduct of others if you become aware of an issue.

    Do your part to keep the classroom neat and clean. Treat all school property and supplies with respect.

    Do not take your books or folders out of the classroom without the permission of your Instructor.

    This is an ADULT EDUCATION SETTING; no disruptive language or behavior will be tolerated.

    You are expected to dress appropriately, and maintain personal hygiene.

    Cell Phones are to be turned off and placed out of sight unless you are instructed to use a phone as part of your lesson. (Example: to access your phone’s calculator; to look up information on Google; to play a teacher-led review game, etc.) No phone calls or text messages are to be made or accepted during AEL class time.

    Children and/or guests are not allowed in the classroom during class time.

    Complete work as assigned by your instructor.

    Participate in group work, complete individual written work and online assignments as directed.



    Students may be terminated or suspended from the AEL Program for the following offenses

    Possession or distribution of stolen property, contraband, fireworks, firearms, or weapons of any kind

    Vandalism - intentionally defacing, breaking, or damaging school or personal property or equipment

    Physical or verbal assault on others in the class or threatening or provoking others to do bodily harm to another person

    Intimidation or hazing activities that place another person in fear for their personal safety

    Loud, boisterous conduct that disrupts the classroom and prevents others from learning

    Use, distribution, or possession of beer, wine, other alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, tobacco products, or substances represented as being controlled or illegal substances

    Failure to follow all reasonable directions given by the Instructor as they relate to safety, MSU policy, testing protocol, communication, and failure to make NRS level gains (see “Failure to Make Academic Gains” policy FY2020)

    General Information

    In case of unexpected illness or emergency on the part of the Instructor, he/she will do his/her best to notify students via phone, text, or by placing a note on the classroom door.

    Students who are not actively (and regularly) working toward progressing on their educational goals, as indicated by testing, work samples, and instructor directions, may be asked to leave the program. Policy effective July 2019.
