Declaration of Practices and Procedures
Shelley Jackson, PhD, LPC
Qualifications: I earned a Doctoral degree in 1997 in Counseling and a Master’s degree in 1986 in Counseling Psychology. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) #15616 with the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors: Mail Code 1982 P.O. Box 149347 Austin, TX 78714-9347.
Counseling Relationship: I see counseling as a process in which you, the client, and I, the counselor, having to come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. Unless you prefer otherwise, I will call you by your first name. Please call me Shelley. During the time you and I work together, we usually will meet weekly. Although our sessions may be psychologically deep, ours is a professional relationship rather than a social one. Therefore, please do not invite me to social events, bring me gifts, ask to barter or exchange services, ask me to write references for you, or ask me to relate to you in any way other than the professional context of our counseling relationship. You will benefit the most if our interactions address your concerns exclusively. I conduct all counseling sessions in English or with a translator for whom you arrange and pay. I do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. If significant differences, such as in culture or belief system, exist between us, I will work to understand those differences.
Areas of Expertise: A variety of formats are undertaken in which I am involved with conducting individual and family counseling with persons of all ages. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well other counseling techniques including but not limited to, mindfulness, psychodrama, play therapy, spirituality and expressive arts therapy to alleviate symptoms. I am a Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor (RPT/S).
Fee Scales: All sessions are $120.
Services offered and Clients Served: I am a Christian Counselor and I approach counseling from a cognitive-behavioral perspective in that patterns of thoughts and reactions are explored in order to better understand the client’s problems and to develop solutions. A variety of formats are undertaken in which I am involved with conducting individual and family counseling with children, adolescents and adults. Together we will discuss and explore what type of therapy would be most beneficial to you, the client.
Code of Conduct: All counseling conducted in this center will adhere to the Texas Code of Ethics for Licensed Professional Counselors established by the Texas Board of Examiners and the Texas Code of Ethics for Licensed Professional Counselors established by the LPC Board of Examiners. A copy of this code is available upon request. Counseling services are available for any client, unless it is determined that a referral to another mental health professional or agency is in order.
