YALSA Board Fellow Application
The YALSA Board Fellow gives YALSA members an expanded opportunity to be involved in the leadership of the association. The selected candidate will serve a one-year term, from June to July of the next year, on the YALSA Board as a non-voting member. While a non-voting member, the fellow is expected to participate fully in the year-round work of the Board including attending and participating in all meetings and discussions. The Fellow will receive a stipend up to $500 for each of three ALA/YALSA conferences. This opportunity is recommended for a member who has a track record of involvement in YALSA and who is ready to step up into a leadership position.

Current membership in YALSA is an eligibility requirement for this Fellowship. This Fellowship is funded by Friends of YALSA.

9. Supporting Statement
For Librarians
Have a supervisor who is familiar with your work comment on your qualifications and how participation in the Board Fellow program will benefit you professionally and/or personally. The supporting statement must be emailed to lburks@ala.org no later than April 1st. Be sure your name and “supporting statement” appear in the subject line.
For Library/Information Science Students
Have a library science professor who is familiar with your work and professional goals comment on your qualifications and how the Board Fellow Program will benefit your future career as a young adult services or secondary school librarian. The supporting statement must be emailed to lburks@ala.org no later than April 1st. Be sure your name and “supporting statement” appear in the subject line.
10. Statement of Understanding
I understand that the up to $500 awarded for each of three conferences is only for conference expenses (registration fees, travel, housing, meal per diem) and in order to receive my full award, I must provide original receipts to the YALSA Office. I understand that if I am selected as a YALSA Board Fellow I must attend all face-to-face Midwinter and Annual Conference meetings of the Board, participate in virtual discussions throughout the year, attend conference call meetings, and participate in activities as assigned by the YALSA President. I further understand that if I receive the stipend and for some reason cannot attend the conference that I must notify the YALSA Office and I will forfeit the award.
