Rick Bonnell Memorial Scholarship
2025-26 Application
In memory of Rick Bonnell, the longtime Charlotte Observer Hornets beat writer who passed away in June 2021, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation will award one scholarship of $10,000 annually to a journalism student currently enrolled at a North Carolina college or university. Through the Rick Bonnell Memorial Scholarship, the Charlotte Hornets Foundation hopes to continue Rick’s commitment to journalism and passion for mentoring young reporters.
As the Hornets launch year five, we are excited to find the next scholar to continue Rick’s legacy.
