Midlothian Youth Leadership Council (Application)
JUNIORS: Do you have a desire to serve your community and develop your skills as a leader? Then the MYLC is just the program for you!

The City of Midlothian, REACH Council and the Midlothian Chamber of Commerce are jointly hosting the MYLC program.

The Midlothian Youth Leadership Council will offer monthly leadership training, as well as experiential service learning in areas such as nonprofit/social service, business, city governance, etc.

An information meeting for students and parents will be held on Tuesday evening, September 10th @ 7pm at the Midlothian Conference Center. Students interested in applying are strongly encouraged to attend, and preference may be given to applicants who come to the information session.

APPLICATIONS and RECOMMENDATIONS are Due on 9/16/19 by 5pm, and notifications will tentatively be made by 9/23/19.

Any Junior living within the MISD boundaries (even if attending private/charter/home school) may apply.

Tentative Program Schedule:

All sessions run from 6:00-8:00pm unless otherwise noted. (Locations TBA)

Monday 10/7/19 – MYLC “Kick-Off” Session
Intro to the program, expectations, program outline, etc.
Monday 11/4/19 – Nonprofit & Social Services Panel
Monday 12/9/19 – Public Safety
Monday 1/13/20 – Business Panel
Wednesday 2/12/20 – State Capitol Field Trip (all day)
Tuesday 3/24/20 – City Council Q&A (5:00-6:00pm)
Monday 4/20/20 – Healthcare (4:30-6:30pm)
Monday 5/11/20 – Student (and family) Graduation Banquet & Awards Ceremony (6:30-8:30pm)

  • REFERENCES

    In order to be considered for the program, you will need 2 references. The first reference must be either a teacher, counselor or someone who knows your skills and abilities in an academic setting.

    The second reference must be an adult that you know personally outside of school, but cannot be a relative. (ie Pastor, Employer, Coach, etc.)

    Please approach both of your references in person and explain that you are interested in the program, and ask if they feel that you would be a good candidate.
