Call for Presentations 2019
2019 NCHN Annual Educational Conference
April 24-25, 2019

Deadline for Submissions: Friday, November 2, 2018

The National Cooperative of Health Networks Association (NCHN) invites NCHN members, Business Partners and guests with an interest in health networks to submit proposals for presentations at our 2019 Annual Educational Conference in San Diego, CA. The conference is an opportunity for network leaders, staff, network board members, stakeholders and policy makers to network, learn and share with their peers.

We are seeking proposals in a variety of presentation formats that will provide attendees with robust discussions, exploration of strategies, sharing of tools and examples that lead to a successful network. The target population is network leaders, network staff, and network board members. Presentation proposals related to the following topics are of interest:

Member Sharing of Best Practices – Members are encouraged to submit presentation proposals that highlight the many projects, products and activities the network offers. The CPC is seeking presentations of both best practices and success stories, along with efforts that were not successful and lessons learned. Depending on the number of proposals received the CPC reserves the right to suggest alternate presentation format for sharing.
Network Management Skills, such as team facilitation & working with boards – Today’s network leaders must rely upon excellent communication skills to move their networks forward. There are many different methods of communication as well an unending list of stakeholders that need to be communicated with. This topic is designed to help today's leaders communicate with their employees, stakeholders, partners and those in governance roles to better understand and support the mission and vision of the network and the community that it serves. This topic should be designed to discuss appropriate strategies with technology, messaging and necessary relevance that will help network leaders avoid political pitfalls and carry out the mission of the organization.
Opioid Crisis: Creating a Recovery Community – Opioid and prescription drug abuse is a public health crisis affecting the entire country. Stakeholders of all types are finding ways to work together to heal communities, promote recovery, and address stigma. Discussion for this session should focus on innovative and effective methods and initiatives for preventing Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), utilizing telehealth for OUD treatment and counseling, initiating and implementing effective Medication Assistance Treatment (MAT), recruitment and education of healthcare providers, and community awareness and education ideas.
Payment & Reimbursement Reform – What is the role of rural networks in assisting their members with value-based care and payment? The transition from volume-based health care and payments to value-based health care payments is underway. What tools and resources have networks identified or developed to assist their members with the transition.
Strategic Networking Viability – Ensuring the future viability and services of health networks is a continuous goal for current leaders. This topic is designed to request proposals that will give the network leader the skills and abilities to sustain their networks. This includes understanding of product development and life cycle, financial sustainability and revenue generation. Most importantly however is keeping the network and its resources relevant for the members that it is designed to serve. How does a network leader keep providing key services to its members while looking forward and redesigning itself to maintain relevance and strategic growth? Topics can include strategic planning, current trends, business development, case studies and other tools that will enhance the network leaders’ knowledge and abilities to create a sustainable network.
Telehealth – Telehealth services are becoming increasingly important in today’s society, especially rural communities. Options for telehealth include virtual clinics, where patients can get care at home without having to go to the ER or Urgent Care (minor issues such as pink eye, allergies, bug bite, cold, flu, etc.), remote home monitoring, outpatient specialty clinics and consults in hospitals. The hospital consults could help patients remain at the local hospital versus having to travel miles, or even hours, away to a larger hospital system, which is critical for the rural hospitals and communities. The specific purpose of this session will be to share strategies on how to launch successful telehealth, how to determine an appropriate vendor for services, how to determine what equipment is needed, information on billing/reimbursements and a success story or two as well as a program that was not successful. By showing our members how to launch a telehealth service as well as hear about successful programs as well as unsuccessful programs, this will enable them to take the right steps to launch a successful program. This can also include documents for the network members to use when comparing vendors, analyzing ROI, etc.

Presentations are sought in the following formats:

Best Practice Showcase: small group sharing session, approximately 20 minutes; shared session with other best practice updates; and must have a tool and/or take away that network leaders can implement into their own network. Hands on, audience interactive and/or participation. Session may be repeated 2-3 times, depending on final agenda format. This is your opportunity to showcase a successful product, service, or activity of your network.
Breakout/Concurrent: approximately 40 minutes; 20-25 participants; must include audience interaction; must provide participants take home tools that can be replicated within their network; can include more than one presenter.
Panel Discussion: approximately 40-50 minutes; 2-4 panelists sharing information on a specific topic with question and answers from the participants. Should be informative, fast paced, and interactive.
PechaKucha: a simple presentation where the presenter shows 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and the presenter talks along with the images. The presentation would be approximately 10 minutes, start through questions. Here’s a link to more information about the style: http://www.pechakucha.org/faq
Plenary: approximately 45 minutes, an informative, information sharing type presentation; includes take-aways for the participants; question and answer period at end of session; and may include more than one presenter in a panel setting. Topic must be an overall general management topic relevant for all types of networks.
Small Group Discussion: approximately 40 minutes; 20-30 participants; seeking hot topics – facilitate a “think tank” discussion with participants and report back at NCHN session on potential solutions or strategies that network leaders can immediately implement. Audience interactive and/or participation.
Ted Talk Format: Concisely presented topic in 18 minutes or less. If used, slides depict key information pictorially rather than provide an outline of the presentation. This style aids the audience's ability to actively listen to the presentation as the limited duration and lack of slides to read focus them on the presenter.
