  • Please submit a video showing the teaching of the following tricks to an individual student or a group class.
    • Video must not exceed 4 minutes but can be shorter. 
    • The video needs to clearly show you (full body) and human student(s) with their dog(s)
    • Please add your name and the title: Dog Trick Instructor Assessment One to the video title. No music please.
    • Please only submit assessment ready videos
    • You will be permitted a maximum of one re-submission. Any further submissions will be subject to a fee of $50.00

    This video should include two short video clips.

    Trick One
    Please demonstrate the teaching of the ‘Close’ trick – learner swings in to left-sided heel position. You may teach using a food lure, hand target or target stick.
    Please include:
    • Initial explanation and demonstration of terminal behavior
    • Explanation and demonstration of the first criterion you wish the student(s) to teach, including what criterion to mark and when and how to reinforce
    • A clip that shows you actively coaching a student
    • A clip in which you are explaining to your student(s) how to place the behavior under stimulus control of a verbal cue, using the New Cue, Old Cue protocol.

    Trick Two
    Please demonstrate the teaching of ‘Watch Me’ Trick
    Please include:
    • Initial explanation and demonstration of terminal behavior
    • Explanation and demonstration of the first criterion you wish the student(s) to teach, including what criterion to mark and when and how to reinforce.
    • A clip that shows you actively coaching a student
  • Please submit a video showing the teaching of the following tricks to an individual student or a group class.
    • Video must not exceed 4 minutes but can be shorter. 
    • The video needs to clearly show you (full body) and your dog (no human students)
    • Please add your name and the title: Dog Trick Instructor Assessment Two to the video title. No music please.
    • Please only submit assessment ready videos

    Trick One
    Part One. Lure with a piece of food
    a) In a straight line for a distance of 1m
    b) In a 360º anti-clockwise circle
    c) In a “S’ shape
    Part Two. Follow the target stick
    a) In a straight line for a distance of 1m
    b) In a 360º clockwise circle
    c) In a “S’ shape
    Remember to clearly and appropriately mark and reinforce each behavior.

    Trick Two
    Please demonstrate your ability to micro-shape a compound behavior that includes interaction with an object. You can make use of targets, props, known cues.
    Please demonstrate the teaching of the trick ‘In Your Crate’
    Please include clips showing the following:
    • One set of (food) reinforcers that demonstrates the beginning of the shaping process. N.B. One set = Five reinforcers
    • One set of (food) reinforcers midway through your training.
    • One set of reinforcers that demonstrates how you introduced your final compound verbal cue.
    • Two repetitions of the final behavior.

    - Final behavior needs to be under stimulus control of verbal cue only.
    - Please use an appropriate bridging stimulus.
    - Please use appropriate reinforcement strategies.

    Trick Three
    Please demonstrate the trick Go-Round (A Send-Around)
    Please show 3 repetitions of the finished trick (the final goal behavior).
    • Each repetition should be in a different location e.g. in living-room, in training room, in yard, on deck, in street…
    • Each repetition should make use of a different object e.g. cone, tree, table, person, other dog (both dogs must be happy about the interaction and appropriately reinforced). You may choose any object you wish.
    • Each repetition should be at a distance of no less than 5 meters.
    Please include:
    • The use of a verbal cue (no visual cue)
    • The use of a clicker or a verbal marker (not both)
    • An appropriate reinforcement strategy for success
