Compose Yourself! Registration - SPRING 2020
Compose Yourself! is an acclaimed pre-professional development program for High School aged musicians from the American Composers Orchestra Education Department

• Ten 90 minute classes to push your composing to new levels of creativity and professionalism
• Only 3-4 students per class assures individualized attention
• Free access to ACO rehearsals and special events
• Free Skills Classes for interested students!
• An in-depth information session and end-of-semester reading/recording session of all of the the student works by this semester's resident ensemble, one of New York's premiere woodwind quintets!

WHEN:
Classes take place late afternoon/early evening on Saturdays, and if needed early evening on other days (individual times will be set once registration is complete)

The Spring semester begins the week ending February 8 and continues to early June.

Special Events so far include:
- February 22 - woodwind info session with our resident ensemble
- March 12 & 13 - access to the ACO Underwood New Music Readings
- April 2 - ACO dress rehearsal at Zankel Hall (Carnegie) with John Luther Adams

WHERE:
Classes take place at the American Composers Orchestra offices (494 8th Ave. at 35th St.)

WHO:
All classes are taught by ACO Education Director, Kevin James. Mr. James is a renowned New York composer known for his broad musical palette and blazing originality.

HOW MUCH:
Compose Yourself classes cost just $40 per session. We request payment for the entire semester of classes at the beginning of the semester ($400).

Scholarships are available - just ask!

When your registration is complete you’ll receive an email from Mr. James with all the information you need for the first class.

Our regular Saturday class schedule for the Spring is as follows:

The precise schedule will be confirmed once all registrations are in.

IF we need to schedule one of our classes during the week it will fall between 5:30 and 7:30 and generally take place during the week prior to the Saturdays listed above.

The date of our reading session is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of June 6-7

  • AVAILABILITY - classes are 90 minutes. Students are encouraged to sit in on other classes.

    Our standard class times are on Saturdays with possible start times between 10am and 6:30pm. BUT scheduling can be challenging and we do our best to accommodate everyone, which means the schedule can vary from semester to semester.

    Specific class times for the coming semester will be confirmed with each of you once our registration is complete.
