SBCC Scholarship Application Form 2024
The completed SBCC Scholarship Application and all required application documents must be submitted no later than April 29, 2024.

Incomplete Applications Will Not Be Accepted
  • Scholarship Selection Criteria

    The scholarship will be awarded based on the following components:

    ➢ Significant participation, contributions, and regular attendance at South Bay Community Church.

    ➢ Demonstrated academic promise and growth.

    ➢ Demonstrated leadership qualities, general promise, and social responsibility as evidenced by meaningful community service.
  • Application Requirements

    Please include the items listed below in your application package:

    ➢ Completed scholarship application.

    ➢ One (1) typed 150–300-word essay describing your community service experience (refer to the Essay Instructions section.)

    ➢ Official transcript indicating a 2.0 grade point average or higher. Transcript must show community service hours completed.

    ➢ Documentation of community service that addressed a critical spiritual, environmental, or social issue. Community service must include hours completed during the junior and senior years of high school.

    ➢ Official acceptance document from the four-year college or university, two-year community college, or vocational school you will be attending.

    ➢ Two (2) letters of recommendation.

    (1) letter of recommendation may come from an academic teacher or counselor, or a community service supervisor.

    (2) letter of recommendation must come from an SBCC church leader (i.e. deacon, servant leader, or pastoral staff member).
  • Important Notes — Please Read

    ➢ Applications not received by 11:00 p.m. April 29, 2024 will not be eligible for review and cannot be considered for an SBCC Scholarship.

    ➢ The scholarship application package is not complete unless all requirements are met as described.

    ➢ Scholarship finalists must be available for panel interview, if requested.

    ➢ Scholarship funds cannot be disbursed until proof of college or vocational school registration is received.

    As a nation and community of faith, we currently face great challenges in many areas of our society. We believe wholeheartedly that these challenges represent opportunities to serve in ways that can positively transform those who serve as well as those who benefit from their service. The SBCC Scholarship Ministry team seeks to inspire our students to continue growing spiritually as well as academically through serving others.

    • Describe the challenge or issue you chose to address. (Examples: education, social injustice, homelessness, individuals with disabilities, access to healthcare, eldercare, economy, environmental conservation, etc.).

    • How has this experience impacted your spiritual journey and spiritual growth?

    • How did your service and use of your spiritual gifts impact the challenge or issue you chose? (i.e., Describe any positive change to the agency or in the individuals that resulted from your service or involvement.)

    • How did this experience affect you personally? What did you learn? How did it change or expand your thoughts and opinions?

    • How do you plan to continue efforts in your service area beyond this experience?

    • As you enter college and consider your career beyond college, how do you plan to continue using your spiritual gifts to contribute to society?
