About JIMI:
JIMI is an immersive, cohort-based experience designed to give participants a holistic understanding of how museums function across departments. Through a series of 90-minute sessions, instructors guide participants through both visitor-facing and behind-the-scenes roles. Rather than focusing narrowly on one specialty, JIMI emphasizes cross-functional knowledge, practical application, and peer learning.

While collaboration is central to SEMC’s work, JIMI sessions are intentionally structured for a single instructor to lead each topic. We ask that proposals reflect one primary instructor rather than a team-taught format.

JIMI2027 Theme: Storytelling Across Museum Practice

Museums are, at their heart, storytelling institutions. Whether interpreting collections, building partnerships, securing funding, managing staff, or welcoming visitors, every museum professional plays a role in shaping the stories museums tell. The 2027 Institute will explore storytelling as a foundational skill across museum work. All instructor proposals should clearly explain how storytelling connects to their session.
