  • The Call for Abstracts is now OPEN.

    The Western Alliance Symposium is an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and forge new collaborations, and to showcase some of the fantastic research from across western Victoria.

    The 2025 Symposium will be held at The Goods Shed, Ballarat on Tuesday 11 November 2025.

    Presentation abstracts are now invited from those working across Western Alliance member health services, primary care and universities, from all disciplines and sectors with a focus on rural and regional health research and translation.

    Deakin Rural Health is collaborating with Western Alliance to present a half day Mental Health showcase on Monday 10 November. The theme is 'Taking action on rural and regional mental health'. It will include a keynote speaker, oral presentations and a panel session. Deakin Rural Health is keen to highlight innovation and best practice in mental health services and research and invites both research and quality improvement projects to submit abstracts.

    Abstract submissions will close at 5pm Tuesday 2 September 2025.
  • PRESENTATION FORMATS

    The Symposium will include:

    - 10 minute oral presentations *

    - 5 slides in 5 minutes oral presentations

    * Please note, the 10 minute presentation timeslots will be prioritised for projects that are able to demonstrate impacts or results/outcomes.

    The STaRR Emerging Researcher Showcase will be held in Ballarat on Monday 10 November. If you are a STaRR participant, you will be invited to present your work through a separate process. Please do not complete this form.
  • PRESENTATIONS

    * At least one author must register and attend on the day to present the work submitted.

    * Abstracts with no presenting author will not be accepted.

    * All presenters must register their attendance at the time of confirming their acceptance of the offer to present (unless already registered to attend).
  • PRESENTING AUTHOR

  • ABSTRACT

    The abstract should be a maximum of 350 words (not including the title, co-authors and contributing authors), following these subheadings:

    • Title
    • Background and aim
    • Population/setting
    • Methods
    • Results/findings
    • Conclusion
    • Translational impact/implications for future practice

    Where applicable, please indicate how consumers or community members have been involved in your research or research translation project.

    Please note that abstracts exceeding the word limit will not be accepted.
  • Add Title, First name, Surname in author order
    (2, 3, 4 etc. for second, third, fourth etc.)
  • Add the primary/main affiliation of each co-author in the same order as above
    (2, 3 etc. for second, third etc.)
  • Abstract submissions will close at 5pm Tuesday 2 September 2025.

    Invitations for oral presentations will be forwarded by email to the presenting author by Friday 19 September 2025.
