Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

If approved to participate in the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, students will receive a total one-time payment of $2000.00 for reimbursement of expenses made at the end of the term once the MIP Veteran Internship Program Requirements (listed below), Work Experience or DCP hours, and class requirements are completed within the selected term; and Dean Approval is submitted to the Mesa College Business Office for Processing. Student will receive a total of $2,000 for completion of the MIP Veteran Internship Program track.

Interested in INTERNSHIPS in SUSTAINABILTY and FOOD SECURITY?

Mesa College’s Strengthening Our Roots and Sustainable Food Futures grants provide students with paid internships to work in the on-campus TerraMesa Community Garden or conduct food system-related research. Interns earn a $1,200-$3,600 stipend by practicing and marketing organic gardening techniques and researching the benefits of sustainability. Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Encoding Geography Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

Encoding Geography is a National Science Foundation-funded collaborative grant project that aims to prepare students for future careers in geocomputation—the bridge or intersection between geography and computer science. Interns from Mesa College will serve as Research Assistants to help in the development of culturally relevant geocomputation exercises for middle school, high school, and community college GIS, geography, and computer science classrooms. "Culturally Relevant Pedagogy is a theoretical model that focuses on multiple aspects of student achievement and supports students to uphold their cultural identities. Culturally Relevant Pedagogy also calls for students to develop critical perspectives that challenge societal inequalities" (California Department of Education).

If approved to participate in the MIP Encoding Geography Track, student will receive total compensation ranging from $3,000-$4,500 split into two payments paid through the NSF Encoding Geography Grant. Student compensation will be based on the number of Work Experience credit hours the student enrolls in for the participating term and will be confirmed at the start of the term. Students will receive their first payment after completing 50% of their Work Experience hours. Students will receive the second payment after completing their Work Experience and MIP requirements after the end of the participating semester.

The MESA program focuses on creating a supportive community that fosters academic and career readiness, promoting holistic well being, with the goal of empowering MESA scholars with the knowledge, skills and mindset to excel in college and beyond. MIP MESA STEM Program Track funding will award up to $2,000 per semester.


Eligibility:

• 1st Generation College Student: (Parent(s) does not have a bachelor's degree or higher level of education in any country).
• Student intends to transfer to a four-year institution
• Student intends to declare a transfer major in a calculus-based Math, Engineering or Science field
• Student does not have a previous Bachelor’s degree in any field
• Recipient of need-based Financial Aid.
• Educationally Underserved
• Be a U.S. citizen, resident, or AB 540/DACA
• Must be part of the MESA STEM Program and in good standing.
• Attend at least two (2) MESA program-led workshops or events during the participating internship semester.
• Complete one (1) check-in meeting with a member of the MESA Program Team during the participating internship semester.

The California Dream Act Service Incentive Grant (DSIG) allows undocumented students to participate in an internship to gain work experience and earn a stipend. The DSIG grant will be available to eligible students for up to 8 semesters while they have an active Cal Grant A or B award. Students shall perform at least 150 hours per semester or 300 hours per academic year of internship, community, or volunteer service with a qualifying campus (Mesa College) or service organization. DSIG funding from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will award up to $4,500 per academic year (up to $2,250 per semester).

Eligibility:

• Completed and submitted a California Dream Act Application (CADAA)
• Is receiving a Cal Grant A or B
• Demonstrate enough financial need (determined by Mesa College)
• Is enrolled in a qualifying institution
