Dennis Ryan was described by one of our Board members as a man who “had a personality that was larger than life.” Through the years, Dennis dedicated hours of his personal and professional time to volunteering and advancing the Human Resources profession. Dennis was a very active board member for multiple SHRM affiliated NYS chapters and was always extremely supportive of the State Council frequently serving as an MC and Exhibitor at our annual conferences.

Dennis has been greatly missed by all who knew him. In honor of his memory, we offer an award to be used by an individual’s professional development in the HR field with award criteria heavily weighted by volunteerism.

The SHRM NYS Dennis Ryan Memorial Volunteer Award recognizes an individual who best embodies Dennis Ryan’s spirit of volunteering and advancing the Human Resource profession.

Membership Requirements
• Must be a member in good standing of National SHRM
• Must be a current or past volunteer member of the State Council of New York and/or a current or past volunteer member of one of the professional chapters in the State of New York.

Professional Requirements
• Must be actively employed in the field of HR, OR
• Looking to re-enter the field with two years' experience in HR

Residency/Work Location Requirement
• Resides in or works in the State of New York

Volunteer Leadership
• Any variety of demonstrated current or past volunteer leadership in:
- SHRM New York State Council
- Local affiliated Professional Chapter in the State of New York
- Local Community Organization

The SHRM NYS Dennis Ryan Memorial Volunteer Award recognizes and celebrates the life of a former volunteer leader who’s legacy has been carried on through other volunteer leaders, advancing the HR profession.

Recipient will receive:
• Prestigious Award Presentation: The award will be presented at the annual state conference and associated council meeting, attended by professionals across New York State.
