Mesa Impactship Program Fall 2026 Student Intake
Thank you for your interest in the Mesa Internship Program (MIP) - Interning with a Purpose!

MIP supports students with exploring careers, developing professional skills, and compensating hands-on industry experiences through internships, volunteering, or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP). MIP is designed to promote workforce training & employment opportunities with focus on underserved student populations. Eligible Mesa students may receive a one-time $1000 payment (also called a stipend) OR hourly compensation for student workplace training & enrollment in a Work Experience or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP) course. Funding will be determined based on eligibility and is intended to support students with reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket expenses such as childcare, equipment, fees, meals, professional attire, & more. MIP students will be part of a cohort community supported by Mesa faculty to help them prepare for career pathways.

***Application Deadline for Fall 2026 MIP Cohort is July 31, 2026. MIP Intern(s) must be hired or have pending DCP site by July 31st to be eligible and considered for the Fall 2026 MIP Cohort.***

NOTE for MIP Fall 2026: Participation in Fall 2026 MIP is based on funding availability and student eligibility. Space for this cohort is very limited and acceptance is not guaranteed for every student.

    This section is required; however, the information provided does not impact a student’s eligibility to participate in the Mesa Impactship Program (MIP).

    1. I will secure a job, internship, volunteer, or directed clinical practice (DCP) position for the participating semester.
    2. Enroll and successfully complete at least 1 unit of Work Experience or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP) Course and required workforce training hours within the participating semester.
    3. Identify with at least one underserved student population.
    4. Actively participate in and complete all MIP activities and Canvas shell as required.
    5. Successfully complete all MIP career video reflections.
    6. Complete an MIP survey and provide feedback of your workforce training and participation in MIP.

  • MIP VETERAN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM TRACK REQUIREMENTS



    Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

    If approved to participate in the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, students will receive a total one-time payment of $2000.00 for reimbursement of expenses made at the end of the term once the MIP Veteran Internship Program Requirements (listed below), Work Experience or DCP hours, and class requirements are completed within the selected term; and Dean Approval is submitted to the Mesa College Business Office for Processing. Student will receive a total of $2,000 for completion of the MIP Veteran Internship Program track.

  • MIP SUSTAINABILITY & FOOD SECURITY TRACK INTERNSHIPS



    Interested in INTERNSHIPS in SUSTAINABILTY and FOOD SECURITY?

    Mesa College’s Strengthening Our Roots and Sustainable Food Futures grants provide students with paid internships to work in the on-campus TerraMesa Community Garden or conduct food system-related research. Interns earn a $1,200-$3,600 stipend by practicing and marketing organic gardening techniques and researching the benefits of sustainability.   • MIP GIS 32ND ST. CANYON CONSERVATION TRACK REQUIREMENTS



    Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP GIS 32nd St. Canyon Conservation Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

    32nd Street Canyon is a dedicated public open space. Its ten acres span six blocks, in the San Diego neighborhoods of Golden Hill and South Park. Swapping Fire Fuel for Habitat strives to demonstrate affordable, repeatable means of reducing habitat-type conversions, refining maintenance, and stabilizing soil. Over 5 years, the proposed project will pilot meticulous invasive tree removal, invasive weed removal, and brush-management zone revegetation. This project will reduce risk and improve resiliency and biodiversity in the canyon. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to support local environmental conservation efforts while building GIS data collection and management skills.

    If approved to participate in the MIP GIS 32nd St. Canyon Conservation Track, student will receive total compensation ranging from $3,000-$4,500 split into two payments paid through the Fish & Wildlife Program. Student compensation will be based on the number of Work Experience credit hours the student enrolls in for the participating term and will be confirmed at the start of the term. Students will receive their first payment after completing 50% of their Work Experience hours. Students will receive the second payment after completing their Work Experience and MIP requirements after the end of the participating semester.

    Discover research through hands-on experience in biomedical, clinical, and translational science. Gain experience and professional skills as you work alongside esteemed scientists in labs completing groundbreaking research. Interns work alongside experts, tackling real-world problems and contributing to cutting-edge research, which enhances their technical skills and problem-solving abilities. This immersive experience not only deepens their understanding of STEM disciplines but also opens doors to future career opportunities and professional networks.

  • MIP MESA STEM PROGRAM TRACK



    The MESA program focuses on creating a supportive community that fosters academic and career readiness, promoting holistic well being, with the goal of empowering MESA scholars with the knowledge, skills and mindset to excel in college and beyond. MIP MESA STEM Program Track funding will award up to $2,000 per semester.


    Eligibility:

    • 1st Generation College Student: (Parent(s) does not have a bachelor's degree or higher level of education in any country).
    • Student intends to transfer to a four-year institution
    • Student intends to declare a transfer major in a calculus-based Math, Engineering or Science field
    • Student does not have a previous Bachelor’s degree in any field
    • Recipient of need-based Financial Aid.
    • Educationally Underserved
    • Be a U.S. citizen, resident, or AB 540/DACA
    • Must be part of the MESA STEM Program and in good standing.
    • Attend at least two (2) MESA program-led workshops or events during the participating internship semester.
    • Complete one (1) check-in meeting with a member of the MESA Program Team during the participating internship semester.

  • MIP HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATION TRACK

    Interested in understanding the complexities of healthcare management and leadership? Explore internships to learn about daily operations of healthcare facilities, such as patient care coordination, financial management, and strategic planning. Interns have the opportunity to work closely with experienced administrators, gaining hands-on experience with key projects and learning about the challenges and innovations in healthcare delivery. Deepen your knowledge of the healthcare system, build a network, and develop crucial skills that are essential for a successful career in healthcare administration.

  • MIP ADULT LEARNERS TRACK

The MIP Adult Learners Track is designed for students aged 25 and older who are ready to gain hands-on experience through internships aligned with their goals. This track offers intentional guidance, flexible support, and tailored resources that recognize the unique responsibilities adult learners often balance—such as work, family, and school. Participants receive personalized coaching in career exploration, resume and interview preparation, and workplace readiness, while building confidence and professional networks. Through real-world experience and dedicated support, students can strengthen their skills and take the next step toward a sustainable and fulfilling career path.

  • MIP INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TRACK

    The MIP Information Technology Track connects students with hands-on internships that build real-world skills across areas like IT support, cybersecurity, software development, data analytics, and network administration. Interns gain experience with day-to-day operations such as troubleshooting systems, managing databases, supporting users, developing applications, and contributing to technical projects alongside industry professionals.

    This track provides intentional guidance, personalized coaching, and access to resources designed to support students as they navigate the fast-paced and evolving IT field. Participants receive support with career exploration, technical skill-building, resumes and interviews, and workplace readiness—while also building a strong professional network. Whether you’re interested in pathways like help desk technician, systems administrator, cybersecurity analyst, software engineer, or data analyst, this track helps you develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue your career goals.

    This track is supported by the San Diego Futures Foundation, along with other valued MIP partners, helping expand access to opportunities, mentorship, and resources for students entering the tech field.

  • MIP RISING SCHOLARS TRACK

    The MIP Rising Scholars Track is designed to support justice-impacted students in gaining meaningful, hands-on experience through internships aligned with their interests and goals. This track offers intentional guidance, personalized coaching, and access to resources that address the specific needs of justice-impacted students as they develop professional skills and confidence in the workplace. Participants will receive support in career exploration, resume and interview preparation, and workplace navigation, while building a network of professionals and peers. Through this experience, students can strengthen their path toward long-term career success and self-sufficiency.

  • MIP DREAM ACT SERVICE INCENTIVE GRANT (DSIG) - Undocumented Students



    The California Dream Act Service Incentive Grant (DSIG) allows undocumented students to participate in an internship to gain work experience and earn a stipend. The DSIG grant will be available to eligible students for up to 8 semesters while they have an active Cal Grant A or B award. Students shall perform at least 150 hours per semester or 300 hours per academic year of internship, community, or volunteer service with a qualifying campus (Mesa College) or service organization. DSIG funding from the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will award up to $4,500 per academic year (up to $2,250 per semester).

    Eligibility:

    • Completed and submitted a California Dream Act Application (CADAA)
    • Is receiving a Cal Grant A or B
    • Demonstrate enough financial need (determined by Mesa College)
    • Is enrolled in a qualifying institution
