Irvington Living Classroom Series
On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 7:00 p.m., Patti Wood will speak at the Irvington Senior Center, 29 Bridge Street, Irvington, about the environmental and health effects of using pesticides and herbicides on lawns and fields and will describe strategies for effective lawn care without these products.Exposure to commonly used lawn and garden pesticides is a significant health risk for people, particularly children and pregnant women, as well as pets and wildlife. These products also directly affect the key pollinators that live in our community, and which are essential to support plant life and the broader food chain.

Patti is one of the founders of Grassroots Environmental Education, a not-for-profit organization founded with the mission to educate the public about the links between common environmental exposures and human health, and to empower individuals to acts as catalysts for change within their own communities. Grassroots has been a leader in the field of natural lawn care since its founding. It conducts training and offers resources for professional landscapers as well as do-it-yourself homeowners and consumers who want to manage their lawns and fields without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.

This will be a timely and important talk for our community. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
