JVA West Coast Cup: Free Presentation
A Volleyball Athlete’s Silent Battle: Overcoming an Eating Disorder

If you are attending the 2019 JVA West Coast Cup in Long Beach, you definitely want to make plans to attend one of the free seminars by Kamila Tan on Sunday, May 26th. A Volleyball Athlete’s Silent Battle: Overcoming an Eating Disorder.

Eating disorders are a highly prevalent and serious issue in the world of athletics. An athletes’ body is his or her livelihood: athletes are constantly scrutinized and evaluated based on the physical performance and aesthetic appeal of their bodies. Athletes are therefore vulnerable to developing eating disorders, and if left unaddressed, EDs can result in decline in athletic performance and serious health complications. Kamila Tan will take us through her story of developing an eating disorder in college, how it is connected to her identity as an athlete, and her triumphs in recovery. This presentation will include why it is important for athletes to be aware of eating disorders and prevent them, and how athletes can support each other in overcoming an eating disorder.

There will be two 45min sessions held on Sunday, May 26th at 12pm and 4pm in Room 102 on the Pine Street side of the building. Athletes, parents and coaches are all invited to attend. You wont want to miss it!
