2021 Virtual First Step Summer Institute
  • First Step Summer Institute is a FREE College-Readiness program for high school Indigenous women and women of color. The usual week-long two session program will be conducted online this year due to the pandemic. The program will be two and half days over Zoom. Session will be from Monday June28th until Wednesday June 30th.


    This is an opportunity for students to build community with Indigenous women/women of color who share a commitment to pursue higher education. Students will gain a strong network of diverse, college-bound friends, support and encouragement from St. Kate’s staff, faculty and students, and increased confidence about their capacity to apply to and thrive in college.

  • APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Complete all sections of application.
    2. One recommendation should come from a current, academic teacher and the other from an adult not related to you and can speak about your personal qualities and interests/talents/skills.
    3. All materials must be completed:

    * Completed application
    * TWO recommendation forms
    * One transcript (Official or Unofficial) scanned/emailed to

  • First Step Summer Institute Session Logistics:

    Due to the pandemic, All accepted students will be required to attend the virtual program.

    Answer ALL of the following questions. Each Answer (per question) should be 5-8 sentences.
  • Personal Statement:

    Answer only ONE of the following group of questions. Your answer should be at LEAST ONE PAGE LONG, but no more than two pages.
