  • Please read the following information regarding Consult-a-Curator:

Consult-a-Curator is available for Cincinnati Art Museum members. Current membership is required for registration. Members are allowed no more than two objects per membership to receive professional opinions from the museum’s curatorial and conservation staff. The services of the Consult-a-Curator event are not offered to dealers, auction houses, or their representatives.
  • Curators of the Cincinnati Art Museum will offer best opinions on:

    • American paintings, sculpture and drawings
    • East Asian art
    • Decorative arts and design
    • European paintings, sculpture and drawings
    • Fashion arts and textiles
    • Islamic art
    • South and Southeast Asian art
    • Photography
    • Prints

Conservators will be available for consultation on repair, restoration and proper storage of objects and works on paper.

  • Curators and conservators will offer their best opinions on the maker, age, medium and condition of objects based on uploaded images. You may be contacted by email or phone. Curators cannot provide monetary appraisals, monetary valuations of any kind, or supply written opinions. Opinions expressed during Consult-a-Curator are based on the curator’s training and experience. However, curators can suggest sources for further information or conservation treatment.
  • Upload Images

Images of the objects are recommended to be high resolution. An overall image of the object is required to upload, as well as multiple images of front, back, sides, and bottom. It is preferable to have a ruler in at least one image, so we can gauge size. Please submit detailed images of any marks, signatures, inscriptions, stamps, foundry marks and labels. For paintings, this includes details on the back of the frame and backing board.

It is preferable to have the object out of their frames/mats. However, we recommend providing a picture of the frame itself, both front and back. Please note that is it difficult to assess pieces of photos thru glass, because often times there is a glare present. Staff may ask for further information and images via email or phone.

Please note: If you are having image upload issues, please send your images to membership@cincyart.org.
