2025 Pre-conference Workshop: AI Demystified
Title: AI Demystified: How FCC Providers and Support Organizations Can Leverage AI

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2025
Time: 8:00am-12:00pm

Level: Intermediate

This workshop is intermediate, meaning you need basic tech skills, such as navigating the web, using email, and finding files on your PC. However, you do not need much experience with AI.

Description:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming industries, and family child care (FCC) is no exception. This session will break down AI in simple, accessible terms and explore how both FCC providers and the organizations that support them can harness AI to improve efficiency, streamline administrative work, and enhance provider resources.

Attendees will gain practical insights into how AI can assist with daily operations, communication, and professional development. The session will also emphasize building confidence in using AI as a tool, encouraging creative experimentation, and recognizing potential risks such as AI hallucinations and data privacy concerns.

By the end of this session, participants—whether FCC providers or those in supporting roles—will leave with a clear understanding of how AI can be leveraged in their work and will be able to identify at least one actionable way to start using AI effectively.

Program is designed for attendees comfortable with using email and web browsing. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops with WiFi access. WiFi enabled tablets are ok and smartphones can be used if need be, though the presenter can’t guarantee how well each tool discussed will work on a smartphone.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes for NAFCC:
Learning Objective #1: Participants will explore how AI can improve efficiency in family child care (FCC) settings and in organizations that provide support to FCC providers.

Learning Outcome #1: Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how AI can streamline administrative tasks, communication, and resource development in both FCC programs and support organizations. They will be able to identify at least one AI-powered tool or strategy relevant to their work.

Learning Objective #2: Participants will develop confidence in using AI as a practical tool and begin exploring creative ways to implement it in FCC environments and support systems.

Learning Outcome #2: Participants will leave with a mindset that AI is accessible and beneficial. They will be able to identify at least one way they can experiment with AI to enhance their work, whether through program management, coaching, or provider support.

Learning Objective #3: Participants will recognize the risks and ethical considerations of AI, including accuracy, privacy, and accessibility.

Learning Outcome #3: Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of AI limitations, including hallucinations and data privacy concerns, and will be able to evaluate at least one AI-generated response for accuracy and appropriateness in an FCC setting or support role.
