Mesa Impactship Fall 2023 Student Intake + Tracks
Thank you for your interest in the Mesa Impactship Program (MIP) - Interning with a Purpose!

MIP supports students with exploring careers, developing professional skills, and compensating hands-on industry experiences through internships, volunteering, or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP). MIP is designed to promote workforce training & employment opportunities with focus on underserved student populations. Eligible Mesa students may receive a one-time $1000 payment (also called a stipend) OR hourly compensation for student workplace training & enrollment in a Work Experience or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP) course. Funding will be determined based on eligibility and is intended to support students with reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket expenses such as childcare, equipment, fees, meals, professional attire, & more. MIP students will be part of a cohort community supported by Mesa faculty to help them prepare for career pathways.

Please complete the following intake form. All students who submit a MIP Intake Form will be notified whether they are eligible to participate and what type of funding source they will receive (if approved). MIP funding is limited. Make an impact & intern with a purpose!

***Students that need support with finding an internship placement are encouraged to apply to MIP early. MIP will offer assistance & resources in applying for workforce training or internships, but a placement must be secured by the student in order to be eligible and approved to participate. SAVE THE DATE! Approved MIP students for Fall 2023 will need to attend a mandatory kick-off event on September 8th from 12:00-3:00pm at Mesa College - Details provided by MIP Coordinators.

  • *NOTE: Students that are not taking a Work Experience or DCP course as a requirement of their academic program will select to enroll in one of the following courses as an elective to participate in MIP:

  • I agree to meet this MIP requirement:
    1. Identify with at least one underserved student population.
    2. Demonstrate financial need.
    3. I will secure a job, internship, volunteer, or directed clinical practice (DCP) position for the participating semester.
    4. Enroll and successfully complete at least 1 unit of Work Experience or Directed Clinical Practice (DCP) Course and required workforce training hours within the participating semester.
    5. Actively participate in and complete all Mesa Impactship Program activities and Canvas shell as required.
    6. Successfully complete all MIP career video reflections.
    7. Complete an MIP survey and provide feedback of your workforce training and participation in MIP.
  • MIP VETERAN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM TRACK REQUIREMENTS



    Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

    If approved to participate in the MIP Veteran Internship Program Track, students will receive a total one-time payment of $2000.00 for reimbursement of expenses made at the end of the term once the MIP Veteran Internship Program Requirements (listed below), Work Experience or DCP hours, and class requirements are completed within the selected term; and Dean Approval is submitted to the Mesa College Business Office for Processing. Student will receive a total of $2,000 for completion of the MIP Veteran Internship Program track.

    1. Complete a minimum of 100 hours of Work Experience or DCP hours within the dates of the participating semester.
    2. Create a VIP ePortfolio highlighting my academic & work experiences.
  • MIP SUSTAINABLE FOOD FUTURES (SFF) TRACK REQUIREMENTS

    Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Sustainable Food Futures (SFF) Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

    If approved to participate in the MIP Sustainable Food Futures Track, student will receive total compensation of $1,200 split into two payments paid through the Sustainable Food Futures Grant. Student compensation will be based on enrollment and completion of a 1-credit work experience course (WE 270, or a discipline-specific course based on student's specific major). Students will receive their first payment after completing 50% of their Work Experience hours. Students will receive the second payment after completing their Work Experience and MIP requirements after the end of the participating semester.

  • MIP ENCODING GEOGRAPHY TRACK REQUIREMENTS



    Eligible & approved MIP students completing the MIP Encoding Geography Track, must also fulfill the additional requirements listed below. Students will be notified of approval to participate.

    Encoding Geography is a National Science Foundation-funded collaborative grant project that aims to prepare students for future careers in geocomputation—the bridge or intersection between geography and computer science. Interns from Mesa College will serve as Research Assistants to help in the development of culturally relevant geocomputation exercises for middle school, high school, and community college GIS, geography, and computer science classrooms. "Culturally Relevant Pedagogy is a theoretical model that focuses on multiple aspects of student achievement and supports students to uphold their cultural identities. Culturally Relevant Pedagogy also calls for students to develop critical perspectives that challenge societal inequalities" (California Department of Education).

    If approved to participate in the MIP Encoding Geography Track, student will receive total compensation ranging from $3,000-$4,500 split into two payments paid through the NSF Encoding Geography Grant. Student compensation will be based on the number of Work Experience credit hours the student enrolls in for the participating term and will be confirmed at the start of the term. Students will receive their first payment after completing 50% of their Work Experience hours. Students will receive the second payment after completing their Work Experience and MIP requirements after the end of the participating semester.
