Carefully review the eligibility and submission guidelines before sending any materials.

Instrumentation should not exceed the standard symphonic complement: winds at 3.3.3.3; brass at 4.3.3.1; harp, piano, timpani plus 3 percussion, and strings (11.8.6.6.4). Doublings allowed: piccolo, bass clarinet, and bass trombone. If the submitted work does not meet this orchestration, composers should expect some re-orchestration will be requested if chosen.

In keeping with ACO's commitment to customizing the EarShot residencies to the participating orchestra’s programming requests, Houston Symphony will only select Hispanic and Latinx composers for their residency.

Complete application and submission materials must be received no later than 11:59 pm EST on October 28, 2019.

A complete submission must include the following:
• This completed online submission form.
• A PDF of the score clearly labeled with the composer's name and title of the work on the cover page.
• A current resume including educational background, major teachers, awards, and professional affiliations.
• There is no application fee.

Travel and accommodations provided. Some meals provided. Chosen participant composers are required to provide professional-quality scores and parts.

  • You must include the specific date, location and ensemble name for any rehearsal, reading or performance of the work that has taken place in the past or is scheduled for the future. If work has been revised since any such reading/performance you must describe in detail. If none, state "none".
  • Are there any future readings, rehearsals or performances of this work planned or under consideration? Tell us what, when, where, and with whom.
  • Upload a full symphonic score in PDF format. The score must include the composer's name and title of work on the cover page. Please be sure to name your file as follows: LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_TITLE.pdf. (20 MB limit)
