Salem Friends of Felines - Volunteer Application
Friends of Felines is a limited-admission feline rescue and adoption center & Community Spay & Neuter Clinic for cats in Salem-Keizer. We are a large group of dedicated, caring, and hardworking individuals committed to helping cats and people in our community. The mission of Salem Friends of Felines is to provide shelter services to homeless cats in Marion & Polk counties in order to reduce cat homelessness.
SFOF offers spay and neuter assistance via our on-site clinic. Our goal is to reduce the growing cat overpopulation issue in the Willamette Valley. Our goals are as follows;
• Bringing homeless pets into our program for medical and social rehabilitation and re-homing; and
• Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population (i.e., spay/neuter awareness and microchipping).
We strongly believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need and as an organization, we can achieve more than we could individually.
Volunteers are given as much or as little responsibility as they choose, once we are aware of their abilities and after completing the necessary orientation and trial service period.
Please carefully read through the information provided on this form before submitting the application. Thank you!

Friends of Felines volunteer expectations:
--Be Dependable.
Attend your scheduled shifts that you've signed up for. Give enough advance notice if you cannot make your shift, so that another person can be found to cover the shift when you can't.
--Have Reliable Transportation.
Cleaning shifts at the shelter can start as early in the morning as 8:00 AM. Even though our shelter doors open at 11:00 AM each day, the cats and adoption center must be cleaned and ready for the public before the doors open.
--Be ready to get your hands dirty and work.
Taking care of the needs of this many cats, and all of the behind the scenes work, can get dirty. There is plenty of time throughout a shift to interact with the cats, we just do not have a position that just involves cuddling, petting and playing with the cats exclusively, as there is so much work to do to keep things running smoothly.
--Be ready to have fun and feel rewarded for helping a great cause - IT'S ALL FOR THE CATS!
** Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
Minors must be working as a volunteer if they come and cannot leave the physical presence of the adult volunteer during their shift.
** Pregnant women and persons with suppressed immune systems should be aware that cleaning litter boxes that could potentially contain the virus Toxoplasmosis that can be hazardous to your or your baby's health. Accordingly, do not come in contact with cat feces or used litter boxes if you are pregnant or have a suppressed immune system.
--I understand that there is a risk of health or personal injury when caring for cats. Intending to be legally bound herby, the undersigned agrees and does hereby release from liability and to indemnify and hold harmless Salem Friends of Felines and any of its employees, agents or volunteers representing or related to Salem Friends of Felines.
