  • Supplemental Grant Proposal Documentation

  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from Walden is not required for faculty and staff to apply for the grant; however, for any funds to be disbursed to the grant recipient, proof of compliance with Walden University regulations regarding the protection of human subjects in research (IRB approval) is required.

For all research involving human subjects, a part of the grant proposal review process will include careful consideration of protections from research risks. The review committee’s evaluation of the protections for research participants will be factored into the overall score for the scientific and technical merit of the application.

Although IRB approval is not required to apply, faculty and staff must confirm with the Walden IRB Office (irb@mail.waldenu.edu) whether it is anticipated that ethics approval will be needed for their proposed research. Documentation of the institutional determination as to whether research ethics approval will be needed must be submitted as part of this application.

*If research ethics approval will be needed, please attach a copy of the correspondence with Walden’s IRB Office indicating their determination that research ethics approval will be required if the proposed research is funded.

*If research ethics approval will NOT be needed, please attach a copy of the correspondence with Walden’s IRB Office indicating their determination that research ethics approval will not be required if the proposed research is funded.

Please save your document as “IRB Documentation – YOUR LAST NAME,” and the upload the research ethics documentation above.

  • If you plan to collect data from Walden (students, faculty, staff etc.) or use existing Walden operational data you must obtain Institutional Approval (IA) from the Walden Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (OIRA). Grant funds will not be disbursed without this approval in place.

Here is a link to the  IA application form. Instructions about how to complete the IA application and where to submit the completed form are included in the IA application itself. Questions about the IA process and obtaining IA approval should be directed to institutional.approver@mail.waldenu.edu.

Once IA approval has been obtained, save a copy of the approval letter as “IA Approval – YOUR LAST NAME,” and upload the IA documentation above.

[Note: If you are not collecting data from Walden or using existing Walden operational data for your proposed research, then you do not need to complete this item.]

  • Walden faculty, administrators and staff applying for funding to support research are able to include compensation/release time from their regular workload to ensure that they are able to dedicate the time required to conduct research. Before submitting a grant application, researchers must talk with their direct supervisor about their intent to apply for research funding that involves compensation/release time.

Here is the link to the Faculty Research Compensation/Release Time Guidelines Template
hosted on the Center for Research Quality website. These guidelines are designed to help guide grant applicants and their supervisors through the process of determining compensation/workload reduction to conduct research. Questions about the guidelines should be directed to grants@mail.waldenu.edu.

If your budget includes compensation/release time to conduct research for you, or any of your Walden Co-PIs, please complete the Release Time/Compensation for Research Approval Form found in the Faculty Research Compensation/Release Time Guidelines mentioned above. The form must be completed for each individual Co-PI employed by Walden that is requesting release time or compensation to conduct research proposed in this research grant application.

Once you have obtained approval for your release time/compensation for research, please save a copy of the fully executed approval form as “RT-C for Research – YOUR LAST NAME,” and upload the documentation above. Complete this step for each Co-PI that is requesting release time/compensation to conduct research.

[Note: If you, or none of your Co-PIs, are not requesting Release Time/Compensation to conduct research, then you do not need to complete this item.]
