Job Description
I. General Responsibilities
The Education Representative is responsible for coordinating and promoting the use and growth of North Carolina 811, Inc. (NC 811) between member and/or non-member utilities, excavators, stakeholders & the general public in promoting awareness and education concerning the use of NC 811 to accomplish the following objectives.
• A heightened awareness level of public safety while working around utilities.
• Use of the 811-notification system that includes the 5 steps to safe digging.
• Reduction in underground utility damages.
• Support participation in the local Utility Coordinating Committees.
II. Specific Duties
• Provide support for the implementation and use of NC 811 (i.e. presentation on the operations of NC 811) to promote growth and awareness to members, non-members, contractors & stakeholders.
• Make visits to promote excavation safety at specific construction sites, local offices, and outside meeting of utility owners and excavators to derive the maximum effectiveness of NC 811.
• Identify owners who are not current members and provide requirements of membership, which will help facility owners reach compliance.
• Provide and schedule education meetings between NC 811 and the operating contractors and excavators to promote the use and resources of NC 811.
• Help develop and maintain public awareness campaigns during the month of April and August.
• Participate and assist in supporting and/or establishing new local utility coordinating committees.
• Evaluate and maintain individual stock of promotional and educational items.
• Participate in development of damage prevention and NC 811 written material. (Presentations, pamphlets, excavation guide, etc.)
• Attend the North Carolina Utility Coordinating Committee meetings as applicable.
• Attend tradeshows, public events along with use of the education trailer or mini ex.
• Attend potential Liaison Conference or national conferences outside of the state as required.
• Prepare and submit timely reports on activities, expenses, and meeting minutes.
III. Other duties
As assigned by the NC811 Education Manager and NC811 Executive Director
IV. Skill Set Requirements
• Public Speaking to small and large groups
• Ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of the Utility Damage Prevention Industry.
• A demonstrated exercise of PC proficiencies including the use of MS Office Products (i.e. Excel, Power Point, Outlook Mail, Access, Word) and use of hardware (i.e. video projector, 360 camera).
V. Other
• There will be in-state travel, occasional out-of-state overnight travel and potential weekend work/travel with this position.
• Valid NC license and insurance required.
o Fleet vehicle is supplied for NC811 travel.
• Applicant must be able to lift up to 30 pounds with no restrictions.
• Applicant must reside within the Western area of North Carolina.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus for this position.
Starting Salary: $50,000
