Who should apply?
Motivated students, who
● Identify as Latinx/Chicanx/Hispanic.
● Show interest in teaching bilingual education.
● Plan to San Diego State University (SDSU) as one of their options.
● Major in Teacher Education, as one of their options.
● Are billingual (Spanish/English).

What kind of support is available?
As a DEBER Scholar, you’ll receive financial support, advice from past and present DEBER scholars, guidance from Mesa faculty and the DEBER Program Director. You’ll have access to Teacher Education counselors at both Mesa and SDSU.

What are the expectations of a DEBER Scholar?

● Enroll in at least 9 units at Mesa and/or City Colleges. Take CHIC 141A either in the Spring or Fall Semesters.
● Complete the 4 DEBER Milestones:
1. The Bienvenidas and Orientation at Mesa/City and SDSU, or the make-up options
2. Building Comunidad:
●Join our DEBER WhatsApp group.
●Respond to emails/text messages from the DEBER team.
●Participate in the 2 required workshops from Mesa/City.
●Participate in the 2 required workshops from SDSU.
●Participate in at least 1 Optional event at Mesa/City.
●Participate in at least 1 Optional event at SDSU.
●Join the DEBER club (optional & highly encouraged)
●Don’t go MIA! (Plan ~4 hours per month for DEBER events.)

4. End-of-Semester Reflexiones
