Which part of the Buffalo Diocesan Youth Conference did you log in and participate in last weekend?
Paul Kim (Fri Night) - Answer Question 1 Below
Doug & Dave Show (Sat Night) - Answer Question 2 Below
I did not participate last weekend. I will watch the YouTube of Paul Kim speaking at a different conference then Answer Question 1 Below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VonZwCuswqQ
1. If you watched Paul Kim (either on Friday or via the YouTube link):
What is one thing that stood out to you about his testimony?
Have you or are you currently experiencing similar feelings to him as a teen before he had that encounter with Jesus at a youth conference (ex going through the motions, but feeling like the Catholic church isn't really relevant in your life? Struggling to connect with Jesus in a personal way?)
What's one thing you need to start doing to reconnect with God more deeply and honestly?
2. If you watched Doug & Dave Show (last Sat). If you only watched Paul Kim, skip this question:
What is something you learned from Doug & Dave? Which one of Doug's character's did you find most interesting? Why?
3. Read "Did You Know" on Page 183 of the Catholic Handbook for Youth.
What are the different kinds of Grace listed? Can you share an example of "actual grace" at work in your life?
*
4. Read Pages 185-190.
Without a growing and evolving relationship with Jesus, faith can grow stale and the Sacraments become like Catholic milestone checkboxes we go through.
This section talks about the importance of our inner disposition in order for the Sacraments to be avenues for God to change us. Some sacraments are only celebrated once, but others are meant to be a regular part of our lives.
Do you currently prepare for and actively participate in the Sacrament of Eucharist (at Mass)? If so, how?
If you are unable to attend in person right now due to the pandemic, do you prepare or celebrate spiritually from home? How?
If you don't regularly celebrate Eucharist at all or don't reflect on your inner disposition/heart when you do go, what are some ways beginning now that celebrating Eucharist can become part of your regular, personal faith practice?
How could you use the gift of Eucharist to grow in your relationship or begin a relationship with Jesus?
*
5. Page 188 explains how the Seven Sacraments fall into 3 categories. What are the 3 categories, what Sacraments are part of each category, and why do you think they are in that category?
*
6. Page 189-190 talks about sacramentals and lists some examples. Do you have any sacramentals in your home? If so, which ones? How do you use them or are they just around? If you don't have any, what are some that you would like to incorporate into your own prayer space/life?
*
7. Baptism is the foundational Sacrament. It begins our new life in Christ, welcomes us into the Christian Community, Forgives and Cleanses Us of Original Sin, We are Born into New Life, and we Receive the Holy Spirit.
Read "A Short History of Baptism" on pages 194-196.
Ask your parents to share with you details about your own baptism.
How old were you? Where were you baptized? Why did they think it was an important thing to do? Who are your godparents and why did your parents choose them? How did your parents feel when you were baptized? Who else helped you celebrate? What memories do they have of that day? Ask to see a photo of that day if you have one in your home.
Share some of what you learned in your conversation. Take time to thank God in prayer for the gift of baptism.
*
8. Read "Receiving Penance and Reconciliation" pg. 229-231.
How often do you go to confession? What stops you from going more often? How do you usually feel before and after you go to confession?
*
9. Last reflection you committed to something you would do during this season of Lent to deepen your prayer life and relationship with God. How is that going? Have you learned anything?
If you haven't stayed committed to it, that's ok! We still have 4 weeks of Lent left. What can you do to start today and help remind yourself to live out your commitment to growing in faith?
*
Mrs Lynn and Mrs Sarah have been meeting every Wednesday and praying out loud together for the personal prayer requests you sent us. Let us know if there is anything else you would like prayers for.
