S.M.A.R.T. MENTOR APPLICATION
The Student Mentors Advising Rising Talent program (SMART) is designed to ease the transition from high school to college both academically and socially for first-year ALANAM (African/African-American, Latino, Native American, Asian and Multiracial) students.
Through a variety of activities and services including mentoring, educational workshops and other activities, the goals of SMART are to: (subject to change)
• Provide first-year ALANAM students a continuing orientation to university and community life
• Support first-year students’ academic success, social integration, leadership development, and retention at Elon by offering a campus climate that promotes increased confidence, higher GPAs, and intellectual/personal growth.
• Empower students to develop healthy relationships with faculty, staff, and students to ensure a strong sense of belonging
• Deepen students’ understanding of personal identities and the identities of others
