Dos and Don'ts in Writing a Blog

Blogging is something that many people are starting to become interested in. There are some that learn how to start a blog on facebook for them to express themselves online, and some use their blogs to earn more income. But, whatever reason you have to make you want to start a blog, you have to know the following dos and don'ts in blogging.

 Do:

Research about your topics.

It is but inspiring and educational at the same time when you share your own experiences and opinions on your blog. But, it is still best that you know facts about what you are writing about. In order for you to do this, you would need to do some research and learn more about the matter. This would help you greatly when your readers would be asking some questions about certain things that you are not familiar with. They would be trusting you more as you would be giving them well-studied information rather than just perception.

Practice your writing skills.

You can try out some writing prompts exercises or other writing trainings in order for you to hone your writing ability. No matter how useful your posts are, your readers won't be able to understand or be interested if you do not write them well.

Put yourself in your readers' shoes.

If you were the reader, what would you want to read about? What kind of format would be easier for you to read and understand? These are just some of the questions you would be asking yourself when you write. Know your audience's interests. Organize your post well so that your readers would want to read your other posts as well.

Be responsible in updating.

Although writing can be a hobby, when you start blogging, you need to treat your blog as a business. You need to be on time when updating and have a regular schedule on your postings.

Don't:

Be disappointed immediately.

Beginning a blog needs patience and hard work if you want to gain a lot of readers. You might get frustrated when you do not hit your target with your first few posts. That's normal. But, do not get disappointed and quit. It takes time to build reputation and online presence.

Copy other people's work.

Your contents should always be unique. You can get some inspiration and ideas on what to write about from other writers, but never copy any post or article from other websites.

Post without editing.

For you to have more credibility, your posts should not contain any mistakes whatsoever, or it should be minimized. Before posting your writings, you need to do some proofreading and a lot of editing before showing the readers your final work. You cannot just go through it once. You need to make sure that all the words are spelled correctly and there are no grammar mistakes. Check your capitalizations and punctuations as well.

Be afraid to try new things.

In time, your posts would become out-dated and your style of writing could get boring. You might also run out of ideas after a while. You would need to be ready to do some changes in your blog when this happens.
