Mountain Tails Animal Rescue Adoption Application

The adoption fee includes the cost of vaccinations and other medical care, as well as spay/neuter. In many cases, the fee will not cover all veterinary care.

Adopting a dog is a commitment to keeping it for its entire lifetime; it is essential that adopters understand this. While we will take a dog back at any time, adjustments take time, so please be patient as your new pet adjusts to you and vice versa. This may take a few days, a few weeks, or a few months.

In order to be considered as an adopter, you must agree to, or meet, the following five criteria:

1. You are not allowed to re-home the pet without our prior approval and a background check. If you can no longer care for the pet, it must be returned to us unless you have made prior arrangements in your will or living trust.

2. You must provide proper food, shelter, training, exercise, grooming, and veterinary care for the life of the animal. It is a member of your family and should be treated as such!

3. If you rent, you must have the consent of your landlord (which will be confirmed).

4. You must not tie pets outside or have current pets that live outdoors (we do make allowances for indoor/outdoor cats).

5. You will not use electronic/invisible fences or shock/bark collars. You must either have a completely fenced-in yard, dog run, or keep the dog on a harness and leash at all times while outside. *

Dogs (shedding especially) need to be groomed on a regular basis. A professional groomer will trim the pet's fur, bathe them, trim nails, shave pad fur, and clean ears and remove ear hair.

All dogs (shedding and non-shedding) should be bathed and combed on a regular basis. They also need to have their ears kept clean, pads shaved, and nails trimmed.

Housebreaking takes time and patience, and each pet is different. If your new dog is not housebroken (and most are not), how will you correct them when there is an accident, and what method will you use to train them?

Please note, if you consider "rubbing their nose in it" as a house training method, we will not consider your application! This is both cruel and abusive. If you also consider "showing the dog the mess as a way of letting them know what they did wrong" as a training method, this is not effective either. Dogs live in the moment, so do some research online, or talk to your vet about effective and positive methods that work best. *

Adoption fees vary depending on the health and age of the pet. Younger and healthier pets have a larger fee because we often have older dogs who need more extensive care. Typically, fees are between $200 - $500.00.
