Google is getting serious about the issue of security these days. Their goal is to make browsing and data exchange safer for all Chrome users on the web.

Back in April, Google announced that starting this October — the most popular browser in the world, its Google Chrome — will begin to label all HTTP pages with password or credit card fields as “Not secure”, as well as any other HTTP pages that require data entry (read “online forms”) when users start entering their data. In Incognito mode, all HTTP pages will be shown as “Not secure”, as you can see in Google’s own example below.

HTTPS is that lock icon in browser address bar that guarantees encrypted connection between users’ browsers and servers where page content is stored. In other words, “S” in HTTPS stands for Secure and it signifies that, when in transit from your form to our secure servers, the data your users provide is encrypted under a special AES 256 SSL certificate. The largest number of data thefts happen precisely in this “transit space” if the data travels without encryption.

It’s clear now that this is not just a Google’s whim but a real threat for the safety of your users’ sensitive data and the reputation of your business, and there is no longer much space or time for manoeuvre. When it comes to HTTPS migration — you need to do it on your website and your forms, the sooner the better.

Let’s face it — seeing the explicit “Not secure” sign while filling in a data sensitive form would discourage even the most loyal customers you have.

But, no panic, it’s not all so bad. Good news is that the migration of your forms from HTTP (unsecure) to HTTPS (secure) connection is really simple with EmailMeForm. There are only two steps in this process and they require minimum technical savviness on your side.

Step 1: Toggle the SSL encryption button » ON

To turn on the SSL encryption certificate which will secure your form’s connection and change its URL from “http://” to “https://”, all you need to do is:

How to turn on SSL encryption on your forms.

Note that SSL encryption needs to be enabled on each form separately and the best is to do it on all your active forms.

EmailMeForm now offers SSL security certificate as a free feature. Our Pro and Premier plans include advanced security options like field and storage encryption if you wish to add additional layer of safety to your extra sensitive data.

In case you are not sure if your forms have SSL certificate, follow the procedure we described above to make sure that “SSL Encryption” is on.

Step 2: Update your form’s link/code where you shared it

After enabling SSL on all your active forms, their urls will change from “http://“ to “https://“.

If you’re using forms as standalone web pages, you’ll need to update the links wherever they are shared on the web. They could be linked to your Facebook page, hyperlinked somewhere on your website, or sent via email or chat to your form takers. To fetch url link of your form, hover over a form and click on the OPTIONS button. It will open form’s settings and you will be able to choose the Code option. It will open your form’s sharing page (see the image below).

Second possible scenario is that your forms are embedded into your website, blog, or social networks. In this case, you will need to re-embed each form by copying a line of its new code and pasting it into the destination page’s code. This might sound complicated but is actually ridiculously simple and you can find the instructions on how to re-embed your form in this article.
